It was our honor to host the Jefferson Project this summer and fall, and to benefit from the expertise of these amazing scientists. With their help, we will make significant strides in the coming years toward rehabilitating Chautauqua Lake. Chautauqua Institution is committed to helping drive the implementation of a comprehensive, science-based approach to improving the health and sustainability of Chautauqua Lake and elevate its conservation as the centerpiece of the region’s economic prosperity, as outlined in Key Objective 3 of our #150FWD strategic plan: https://150fwd.chq.org/#course

It's been a momentous two days on Chautauqua Lake, as our partners from Jefferson Project at Lake George prepped and then deployed two state-of-the-art vertical profilers in the north and south basins of the lake, between Dewittville Bay and Irwin’s Bay and between Colburns and Cheney’s Point, respectively. They will remain on the lake through November. Now that they're deployed, the VPs will begin collecting valuable data about Chautauqua Lake, which will help the Jefferson... Project to understand and address the impacts of harmful algal blooms on Chautauqua Lake. Please use caution around the VPs as you traverse the lake this summer and fall to avoid contact with the platforms and their mooring lines, which extend beyond the footprint of the barge. From dusk to dawn they will be illuminated with a white light indicating that the platforms are anchored and not underway.
