Still here, still ready to help our patients when they return to NYC. #GoSeeYourDoctor

#Repost @drethanciment with @get_repost I pride myself in having developed a practice that is rooted in relationship-based medicine. That means that I really get to know more about my patients than just the injury or the problem for which they came in to see me. I spend time to get the bigger picture of who my patients are, what their activity level is, what their hobbies are, and what their lifestyle is like.... Why? Well, first and foremost, I am a people person. I’m genuinely interested in people of all walks of life and I love getting to know new people. More importantly, I think it’s vital for healthcare providers to know as much about our patients as possible because it all contributes to making a better diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. Lifestyle is a huge factor that traditional western medicine has largely overlooked. It’s also the reason I talk about things like sleep and diet with many of my patients. Let’s face it, how you choose to power a machine determines to a large degree how effectively that machine will run. It’s been a weird time here in New York City during COVID-19. So many New Yorkers have fled the city and so many more are still afraid to leave their apartments, even though there has never been a safer time during this pandemic in New York City to go out. We have really flattened our curve and our rate of new infections remains very low. One of the most heartening things for me during this time has been how many longtime patients - some of them who have been with me since the very beginning - have called to come in for one reason or another. When I don’t see a patient for a number of years, I miss seeing them but I’m glad to know that we have come up with a strategy to keep them healthy and injury free. When a patient suddenly comes back after a long time, whatever the reason, it always warms my heart to know that they value our doctor-patient relationship as much as I do. Their stories- the lessons I learn from them, their challenges, and triumphs- have each taught me something and made me the doctor I am today. _________________ #relationshipbasedmedicine #relationshipbasedpodiatry #doctorswhocare

Even though the @nycmarathon has been cancelled for this year, we’re still seeing a LOT of this injuries. Especially when folks don’t have access to their gyms and normal exercise equipment and routines. Remember: running is like every other sport. You need to train, have good form, and be ready to do it properly, or you could get hurt badly. ... . . . . . . . . . #Repost @drmichaelcollins with @get_repost As runners begin training for the #NYCmarathon it’s important to not let the minor aches and pains get the best of you . This patient was diagnosed with capsulitis by another doctor and received a Cortisone injection. After the pain persisted for > 1 month, she sought a second opinion. I ordered an MRI and discovered the sesamoid bone was no longer viable. In fact, the dead bone was beginning to break down the normal, healthy cartilage of the first metatarsal. The patient underwent a removal of the sesamoid bone and was placed in an offloading shoe. The arrow shows the long flexor tendon of the big toe; nestled closely to this is the sesamoid bone. Swipe to see closure of the subcutaneous tissue, the sesamoid bone, and the skin closure. ______________________ #sesamoid #sesamoiditis #sesamoidfracture #sesamoidsurgery #avn @ Midtown Surgery Center

#Repost @drethanciment with @get_repost Monday morning is as good a time as any to talk about one of my favorite things in the world: ... We all know that coffee has caffeine which is a stimulant and sometimes it gets a bum wrap for being an addictive beverage. While that certainly can be true for some of us, you’ll be happy to know that coffee also has been shown in recent years to have quite a few known health benefits, so long as it’s consumed in moderation. Coffee beans contain polyphenols and quite a few essential nutrients, many of these making it into the final brewed beverage. That’s right, our delicious cups of coffee contain riboflavin (vitamin B2), pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), manganese, potassium, magnesium and niacin (vitamin B3). Interestingly, there are a lot of studies that seem to indicate that coffee drinkers have a significantly reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. Studies show that people who drink the most coffee have a 2350% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A meta-analysis of 18 studies looking at a total of 457,922 people over a 40 year period showed that for each daily cup of coffee consumed there was an associated 7% reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes! Coffee also appears to be protective against two types of cancer: liver and colorectal cancer. Liver cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in the world, while colorectal cancer ranks fourth. Studies show that coffee drinkers have up to a 40% lower risk of liver cancer. Similarly, one study in 489,706 people found that those who drank 45 cups of coffee per day had a 15% lower risk of colorectal cancer. All of this good news about my favorite hot beverage is making me thirsty! Time for another cup. I enjoy my coffee with soymilk (or oat milk) and Splenda (my guilty pleasure!) How do you enjoy your coffee? #coffee #coffeelover #coffeeaddict

Thanks for the kind words, Mike! We love it when other healthcare providers give us feedback as our patients. We take pride in running a tight ship at Chelsea Foot and Ankle. When he founded Chelsea Foot and Ankle 16 years ago, Dr Ciment was adamant that we do medicine differently. No hidden costs and direct communication with our doctors is just part of how we establish #relationshipbasedmedicine with all of our patients. Glad to know your longtime painful bunion is gone! We...’ll miss seeing you at the office but are glad you (hopefully) won’t need to come in as often. . . . #bunions #bunionsurgery #bunionectomy #bunionrecovery #bunionremoval See more

We want to remind you that we have fully reopened our office and we are booking in-person patient appointments. We understand that there is a lot of fear and uncertainty about what is safe right now. We know many people have delayed getting non-urgent medical care over the past few months because of COVID-19 concerns. Delaying treatment for many foot and ankle conditions can cause secondary issues, prolong pain and injury, and lengthen the time for recovery. Currently, the ra...tes of COVID-19 infections in New York City are at the lowest since March and they are thankfully holding at this level. While we are hopeful that this trend will continue, there is no guarantee that this will be so. Now is the ideal time to book your appointment and come in to be seen. Given the uncertainty of this emerging pandemic and the great likelihood of another shutdown in the fall/winter if not sooner, we are urging all our patients to come in now and not delay on getting the treatment they need. As healthcare providers, we take the health of our patients and our staff very seriously. We want to assure you that we are taking all the necessary steps to keep everyone in our office as safe as possible. These steps include limiting the number of people in our office at any time, staggering appointments so that we do not have multiple patients in the waiting area, requiring everyone in our office to wear face masks, and disinfecting all surfaces between patient visits. We have been here for you throughout this pandemic and vow as essential workers to stay open and available to all of our patients until we get through to the other side of this crisis. If you are well, we hope you continue to stay safe. However, if you are having a foot or ankle issue, please don’t delay getting the care you need. Give us a call and we will get you in as quickly as possible.

When we say #blacklivesmatter we mean that #blackwomenmatter as much as black men. It’s been over 100 days since #breonataylor was murdered in her bed while sleeping and the cops who killed her still walk free today. Enough is enough! #justiceforbreonnataylor @ Chelsea Foot and Ankle, PC

****CHELSEA FOOT AND ANKLE RE-OPENS TO IN PERSON OFFICE VISITS**** Dear Chelsea Foot and Ankle community, We hope this letter finds you and your families healthy and safe in these extremely challenging times.
