As we continue to see a rise in new confirmed cases, we must all follow best practices and urge those around us to do the same. We have all worked very hard to keep this pandemic at bay and we must continue those efforts to prevent additional spread in our community. We will be sending out additional messaging soon. Please be patient. Thank you (We are experiencing technical difficulties with the update to the recoveries metric but will update it soon) Chenango County COV...ID-19 Numbers for 10/20/2020 Active Cases 46 Active Quarantines 221 Total Confirmed Cases 330* Active Hospitalizations 4 Total Recoveries 246 Total Tests Performed 33903* Total Deaths 7 *Source NYS COVID19 Tracker

OUR COVID-19 CASE NUMBERS ARE STARTING TO INCREASE Individuals and businesses have done a great service to our community by following the evolving recommendations, guidance and regulations to decrease the spread of Coronavirus. Together we have done our part to reduce the numbers in the state and in our county. Your individual efforts to reduce illness have been successful in our local community. We know that it is not easy but you have made a positive difference. Please ...remain diligent and keep social distancing, wearing masks/ face coverings in public, practicing good handwashing, and cleaning/ disinfecting techniques. The future is still unknown with the virus and we do not want our case numbers to spike. Many surrounding counties are seeing a surge in Coronavirus cases. We control our future at the local level. It is important to continue to try our best to keep the case numbers low so we can all stay healthy. Over the past week we have seen an increase in positive case numbers. A growing number of these positive cases can be attributed to the opening of schools and colleges. Others are related to having contact with a person that lives outside of our county that is positive for Coronavirus and still others are related to our residence who have traveled to other states with high rates of COVID-19 and have returned home and have not voluntarily home quarantined for 14 days. This increase in positive cases is NOT related to a single incident, gathering or group activity. We want to stress the importance of continuing to social distance while in a group setting, gathering, or out in public. If you travel outside of the county or state, you should research current information about the place that you plan to visit so you may plan accordingly. Always take steps to protect yourself and your health. We cannot control what others do but we can take responsibility for ourselves and do the best we can to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Stay at least 6 feet away from others, wear a mask and wash your hands often. Here at the Health Department we remain ready and prepared to deal with any COVID-19 increases in Chenango County. Plans are in place to deal with any situation. We remain diligent with contact tracing and investigation protocol. Please be aware, stay informed, and stay safe. Thank you!

FROM: Chenango County Health Department DATE: 12/5/2020 BUILDING OUR CONTACT TRACING CAPACITY... The Chenango County Health Department would like to let our residents know that we are getting ready for a possible spike in COVID-19 cases through the holiday season. We are busy making the preparations needed to deal with any rapid COVID-19 increases in Chenango County. Plans are in place to deal with a surge in cases. We remain diligent with contact tracing and investigation protocol. More than 1 million COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States over the last week. As cases continue to increase, the safest way to celebrate holidays or special events is to celebrate at home with the people you live with. Gatherings with family and friends who do not live with you increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu. Please be aware of the following important points related to COVID-19 in Chenango County: We are increasing our contact tracing capacity to prepare for a surge in cases that could occur in the next few weeks through the middle of January. Social gatherings have now been identified as the number one spreader of COVID-19. 65% of the new COVID-19 cases are from large social gatherings and parties over the 10 persons recommendation held during the Thanksgiving holiday week. The Center for Disease Control and the New York State Health Department recommend staying home and not traveling this holiday season. Everyone should have celebrated Thanksgiving with ONLY household members and/ or groups under 10 individuals and NOT with relatives from out of state or persons outside of your household. This model should continue through The Holidays. Please remain diligent and keep social distancing, wearing masks/ face coverings in public, practicing good handwashing, and cleaning/ disinfecting techniques. We want to stress the importance of continuing to social distance while in a group setting, gathering, or out in public. Always take steps to protect yourself and your health. Stay at least 6 feet away from others, wear a mask and wash your hands often. Please be aware, stay informed, and stay safe. OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH Strength is a beautiful shade of PINK! Public Health Staff will wear our pink masks this month to increase awareness and show support for the battle against breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. It is important for women to feel informed and empowered about breast health. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. While we can’...t prevent breast cancer, we can make sure that every woman has the tools and education she needs to be proactive about her health. Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There are different kinds of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer depends on which cells in the breast turn into cancer. There are many factors that influence breast cancer risk. While some factors are out of our control like age or family history, other factors can lower your risk by taking care of your health or making small changes like these listed here: Maintain a healthy weight Exercise regularly Limit consumption of alcohol Quit smoking Breastfeed your children if possible Get your mammogram as recommended CANCER SCREENING IS IMPORTANT FOR EARLY DETECTION OF BREAST CANCER Every screening has its benefits, which is why it’s important to talk to your doctor before getting any screening test, like a mammogram. A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast. Doctors use a mammogram to look for early signs of breast cancer. Regular mammograms are the best tests doctors have to find breast cancer early, sometimes up to three years before it can be felt. The benefit of screening is finding cancer early, which may make it easier to treat. Talk to your doctor about which breast cancer screening tests are right for you, and when you should have them.
