This extensive lobby, plaza and amenities renovation project opened last fall after nearly five years of planning, design, filing, and construction work. With a combination of striated stone slabs, bronze-framed wood paneling, and a Corian feature wall (which we will dig into further in a later post), the design creates a serene and flowing transition from sidewalk to elevators for the residents of this 360-unit, 36-story tower built in the 1970's. New lighting and cladding... on the columns extends from the interior out to the building's public plaza, giving visual continuity to the entire ground floor level. Amenity spaces include a new two-level gym for tenants, an enlarged package service area with dedicated valet counter, and a new mailroom. As with most large renovation projects in NYC, this project involved many parties, including: design collaboration with Combined Architecture & Design, Key & Shade Interior Design, and Lighting Workshop; Construction management and general contracting from Folor Inc.; vision and project management from our client, the Kibel Companies; and great work by our Project Manager Hyeri Moon. #nyc #nycdesign #midtown #midtowneast #nycinteriordesign #interiordesign #architecture #cnc #cncmill #parametricdesign #parametricarchitecture #lobbydesign #corian #featurewall #cheungshowman #cheungshowmanarchitects

We're pleased to share our design for this 2-story addition on a tiny lot in the Bronx. In order to create contrast from the sea of surrounding all-brick buildings, we clad the project in corrugated metal, creating a 'ghost' that floats above the existing facade. This 2-family development for our client, Hooomi, is currently in building permit process. #cheungshowman #cheungshowmanarchitects #bronxarchitecture #NYCarchitecture #NYCadditions #architecture

Our design for this medical office from 2 years ago uses line, light, and transparency to guide patients from reception to exam room. Patients experience a gradual opening of views and increase in natural light as they move through the space. Staff operations, located at the center of the pin-wheel plan, are screened in a way that calibrates privacy with a sense of life and activity.

An incredible step toward LGBT equality in the workplace!

One small step we're taking is to examine the implicit bias against POC that exists in ourselves. This week, we ordered these books for our office library: Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates; Me and White Supremacy, by Layla Saad; How to be an Anti-Racist, by Ibram Kendi. Here is the full The Anti-Racist Reading List from the Atlantic: https://www.theatlantic.com//antiracist-syllabus-g/582580/ #blacklivesmatter

These offices for a media company in #DUMBO are an ongoing project. We've worked closely with our client to create minimalist workstations and amenities for its ever-growing staff, in a classic NYC heavy timber building. As we move closer to reopening, we're beginning to imagine what the post-COVID future (if it comes) may look like for spaces like this. Photos by Nicole Mason Photography. #cheungshowmanarchitects
