Congress may be close to a legislative deal. Make sure movie theaters are included. Speaker Pelosi and Secretary Mnuchin are working toward a legislative compromise so that Congress can pass a COVID relief bill soon. As things stand, many movie theater companies will be left out of existing proposals that could form the basis for negotiations. The House bill that was introduced this week, HEROES 2, has very modest Paycheck Protection Program funding for companies with 200 or ...fewer employees, increased funding for EIDLs, and THAT’S IT. We need you to call and write to your House and Senate offices TODAY and tell them not to leave movie theaters out of a deal. Find your member of Congress by visiting www.house.gov and using your zip code in the Find Your Representative search tool. Talking Points: HEROES 2 will not help movie theaters. The bill picks winners (airlines, restaurants, live venues) and losers (everyone else, including movie theaters). The ONLY assistance programs for industries PPP and EIDLs. The companies that employ the vast majority of people will not qualify for those programs. 78-84% of the industry’s jobs will be lost if those are the only assistance options. We need for Congress to either include the RESTART Act (H.R. 7481/S. 3814), or to redirect unspent money from the CARES Act to programs for the hardest-hit companies in a final negotiated product. Please press for this. Please tell leadership that we cannot have a deal that doesn’t help ALL industries that have had major losses. Questions? Contact Esther Baruh at [email protected]. See more
