The staff at the Information Technology Exchange Center (ITEC) has established a scholarship. The award(s) will be given in May to a student who is enrolled in the Spring 2017 semester and shows promise in the use of computing and technology. Since 2004, we have awarded $55,000 to 57 recipients. The scholarship is not restricted to CIS majors; nor is it for undergraduates only graduate students may apply also. Past recipients have included students majoring in Exceptiona...l Education & Childhood Education, Educational Computing, Technology Education, Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, Fashion and Textile Technology, English Education, Biology, Urban & Regional Analysis & Planning, Mathematics, Special Education, Speech Language Pathology, Literacy Specialist, Dietetics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Interior Design, Art, Physics, Social Studies Education, Chemistry, Multidisciplinary Studies, Professional Applied and Computational Mathematics and Criminal Justice. We appreciate the opportunity to give back to Buffalo State. Additional information on criteria is available through the Campus Application Portal for Scholarships (CAPS) at https://buffalostate.academicworks.com/opportunities/2388. Winter officially kicks off Wednesday (Dec. 21), which marks the December solstice the day with the fewest hours of sunlight of 2016. Although the solstice gets an entire day of recognition, it happens in an instant: at 5:44 a.m. EST (10:44 GMT), when the North Pole is at its farthest tilt of 23.5 degrees away from the sun. This position leaves the North Pole beyond the sun's reach, and plunges it into total darkness, according to EarthSky.org. http://www.livescience.com/57280-winter-solstice-science-ex
