As we head into this weekend, you are helping to provide weekend food for nearly 600 local elementary students! This is a sample bag of what the children receive each week to take home to share with their families. Thank you for helping to feed hungry children in our community!

After a year of so many challenges, you are helping the men and women we serve to look forward to a brighter future! We loved this quote from one of our graduates who shared how he was able to use his time at the Mission to create a brighter future for himself and his family: "It is my intention to leave the Mission with a renewed purpose, a new job, and hope to fully reconcile with my wife and kids. This month, City Mission will receive a $1 donation for each purchase of the $2.50 reusable Fight Hunger Bag at the Hannaford Supermarkets stores on Route 50 in Glenville and Altamont Ave in Schenectady. Each little bit makes a difference so thank you to Hannaford and your wonderful customers! We are grateful for this special program so if you're shopping at either of those stores this month, be sure to pick up a bag or two!

I’m trying my best to make it through this difficult time and it really meant a lot to know that people at City Mission cared about me. They gave me good meals and they were so kind to me I felt like I was part of a family again. We just loved this quote from a woman who was recently widowed and has been receiving to-go meals from our Dining Center. Our Chapel Team is focusing on the topic of COURAGE this month. Throughout chapel services, team devotionals, and meetings, we are sharing this image and discussing what it means to be courageous with our staff and residents. Do you need a reminder to have courage today?

"I thought it was love because I so badly wanted to be loved." ~ Family Life Center resident These are the heartbreaking words of a resident who has lived through a frightful and unhealthy relationship. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and we are grateful for wonderful friends like you who help our residents find healing from the past... and a new hope for the future! Today, this resident says, "Because of the people at City Mission, I have learned to value myse...lf as the woman of God I am. God loves me more than I could have ever imagined... and I've learned to love myself too." We play a small role in helping people find safety from dangerous situations and partner with many domestic violence shelters in our community! Last week we had a small celebration with the 5 men who recently completed our Bridges to Freedom program. We are so proud of them and all that God has in store for their future.
