UPDATE: I just spoke to a representative from the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the owner of the property that I was referring to yesterday. They s...aid that they have several interested buyers in the property and that they are not sure how it was leaked that a dollar store was going there. However, when I asked if they thought a dollar store was a good fit for the Hollow, they said that they had done research and that it would be a good fit because people love shopping at dollar stores! TRANSLATION....IT'S BEING SOLD TO A DOLLAR STORE! The representative also said that the sisters and the residents of the Claremount will love shopping there. So, the research was based on two facilities that house elderly, income limited residents that reside right behind where this will be built. How about asking ALL of the residents of Clarence Hollow if they think it's a good fit? Based on the comments AND all of the shares from this original post, I'm guessing ALL of the residents of the Hollow/Clarence don't feel the same way! As everyone is aware, the Catholic Church is financially hurting these days, which leads me to believe that they are also hurting being a non-profit religious affiliation. However, if they need to sell off their property to make ends meet, then at least they should be cognizant of the area and sell it to someone that's not going to devalue the historic charm of the Hollow. It would be the neighborly thing to do, but apparently this is just about the bottom dollar! PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE THIS POST AND LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD. NO DOLLAR STORE IN THE HOLLOW!!!! I am the Treasurer for the Clarence Hollow Association (CHA). One of our missions is to preserve the historic charm of Clarence Hollow. We just had a board meeting and it was brought to our attention that a private land owner is in the process of selling a parcel of land right across the street from the Clarence Fire District on Main Street, in front of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s next to Dr. Woodworth’s office to DOLLAR GENERAL!! I have seen the test borings occurring, but didn’t know why? Now I do! This infuriates me as I, along with our board, feels that that location is NOT a proper place for a Dollar store of any kind! There is already a Dollar General 7 miles to the East in Akron and there are multiple dollar stores 5 miles to the West on Transit Road. WE DO NOT NEED OR WANT A DOLLAR STORE IN CLARENCE HOLLOW!!! CHA has been making great strides in turning the Hollow around recently. The DeRose family has been integral in RESTORING historic buildings and bringing businesses back. Our Board is all for business, but the right kind! A dollar store located there will destroy the charm and integrity of our charming hollow! PLEASE SHARE THIS POST AND LET’S SAVE THE HOLLOW FROM THIS OVERKILL OF BUILDING ON EVERY SQUARE INCH JUST FOR A PROFIT!!!
