As he does so, Chief Keeler is teaching his 14 year old daughter Kersten, a Junior Firefighter, to use the "Blitzfire" hose-line as she backs him up. Three generations of Keeler's (including PJ Keeler, himself a Claverack firefighter who also serves as our County Treasurer and County EMS Coordinator) were on this scene, aiding their neighbors in need. Unfortunately, the ranks of our local volunteer fire companies are dwindling. They all desperately need help and volunteers. As the cost-of-living continues to rise here in New York State, and the influx of New York City second-homeowners continues to push property values to levels where our local kids can no longer afford to purchase homes here in town, we are seeing a steady decline of volunteer firefighters. They need our help! The A.B. Shaw Fire Company remembers all who have given their lives in service to our nation. Despite many Memorial Day events being canceled, we encourage everyone to find a way to pay homage to those who gave all. It can be as simple as having the family gather at the flag on the front porch for a moment of silent reflection. Lest we forget.
