A message from Mary Zimbler at The Country Pantry - July 2020 Update Thank you for your continued support of The Country Pantry. We receive phone calls daily, f...rom new clients and established clients that are in need of food. We received 750 meat boxes (17 pounds each) and 780 produce boxes (14.5 pounds each) in July to distribute. These boxes were trucked at our expense from SYR Food Bank, the morning of distribution. The Food Bank does not have a truck large enough for the needs in our area. So trucking cost falls to the pantry, and we use a company that leaves the refrigerated tractor-trailer in our parking lot all day. We also distributed 3-4 pound bags of grains (including pasta, rice, cereal, oatmeal, bread mixes) and hygiene bags (TP, tissue, toothbrushes/paste, paper towels, bar soap) Kraft Foods in Lowville donated cheese for 150 families. What a blessing! We continue to distribute food upstairs in the parking lot. We will be using the garage in the winter (to keep warm!) and distribute food in the parking lot, drive by style. We continue to serve two school districts (Clinton and Westmoreland) plus two local apartment buildings. Before we open to the public we have trucks/cars going to 200+ families with all of the food listed above. Our next food distribution is Monday, August 3rd. Three hundred gallons of milk were just donated to the pantry from Buell Fuels in Deansboro for this distribution. We may have a second distribution toward the end of August but meat boxes are few and far between. All is dependent on supply from the food bank and trucking availability. Our needs; the pantry will have bare shelves after August 3 distribution. A company will come and do a deep cleaning and we will start all over again filling shelves when food is available. I have not seen the shelves like this in 11 years. It is a challenge but also a time to see the goodness of God to those in need. I ask that you share our needs with your churches, on your social media and your businesses.... Please encourage families you know who are in need to call the pantry. I have been delivering to some families and meeting others at the pantry (upstairs). Some call with a grocery list. We do our best to meet needs but we don't have everything. We always do our best. Families are grateful and sometimes desperate. The Farmers Market Federation of New York has designated Aug 3-7 as GIVE BACK NY week. Many Farmers Markets throughout our state will partner with local pantry agencies. The Clinton NY Lions Club has graciously offered to have a table at the Clinton Farmers Market August 6 from 10 am - 4 pm, in Clinton. Donors will be able to bring food donations, make monetary donations, and learn about The Country Pantry.
