Ordering is open for the "Farmer's Park-It" this coming Thursday, March 4 at the New Hartford Shopping Center. You can place your online orders to be picked up... between 3 and 3:30 on Thursday here: https://kingfisherfarm.eatfromfarms.com/ We have a really nice selection of fava bean (earthy, green bean flavors) and pea shoot (think spring!) microgreens. These are excellent in salads or light cooking. We are also still well-stocked with storage carrots and beets at their sweetest. And we're adding a few items from friends: Organic, whole grain muffin mix from Utica's Rosemont Inn Bed and Breakfast; mushrooms from Fruit of the Fungi; and direct-from-the-farmer coffee that we import through Just Haiti, a farmer-cooperative working exclusively with shade-grown, small land-holder farms. We have found this group to be the "CSA" of coffee shopping = we truly know where our coffee comes from and where our money is going. So we figured we'd share this product here for you to try as well.

As of 6:00pm on February 27th, sugar season 2021 has officially begun. As our 14th season begins, here’s to many long days, late nights and LOTS of sap hauling and boiling. A HUGE thank you to all of our family and friends who have helped us to get ready for this season!

Let’s talk flavor... Today’s profile: Hericium erinaceus aka Lion’s mane These mushrooms may look like something from the deep depths of the ocean (or maybe you... just want to cuddle or pet them), but they are actually a lovely, tender, and tasty mushroom that is native to the Northern United States (and Canada). In fact, there are at least 3 types of Hericium found in the Northeast. Check out those hardwoods in the fall... And what do these beauties taste like? The flavor (and texture) is very similar to lobster or crab. It is meaty and delicate. Our favorite recipe is to make crab cakes (substituting the crab with lion’s mane) and you’ll be hard-pressed to tell the difference. The recipe is on our website. They also sauté nicely with a little butter (at the end, of course). Lion’s mane has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may benefit brain health, memory, boost focus, and improve mood. It may also help stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), both are proteins that stimulate the production of new cells and strengthen existing ones. We have fresh lion’s mane and powder available year round. Please note...we do not recommend petting an actual lion’s mane...lol

Gathering chickens for the last time this season. Temps are dropping to around 20 tonight, so it’s about time... . This means we’ll have fresh in our farm st...ore thru this coming week, but that will be the end of fresh chicken til next spring This is always a bittersweet moment. . We raise beef but we don’t own a grill...The cool thing is you don’t need one to cook great steaks & chops at home. We’ve never made a cooking video but we’re ...gonna go for it today! We’ll show you one of the super simple ways we cook the meats we raise. Our family will be live at 6pm tonight and you’re welcome to join us. :)
