The New Clove Lakes 5K Trail 03.02.2021

A beautiful September morning for some 5K trail maintenance! We leveled gravel, removed many rocks and got a lot of weed whacking done. Many thanks to the 40 plus volunteers who came out especially the MSIT and Curtis track teams, Correcaminos SI, Richmond Rockets, SIAC, Staten Island Running Association, Inc., and SITRAC. Happy Trails all!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! We are seeking up to 20 volunteers to help maintain our beloved and newly created 5k trail course in Clove Lakes park on Saturday morning Sept 12, from 9:00am to app 11:00am. We will meet in the parking lot. A lot of damage was done to the trails as a result of the tropical storm two weeks ago. The bulk of the work will involve raking the stones from the top layer back into place as well as some minor weed whacking.... If you are representing your running club, can you please share this request with your club members. If you are a coach and in touch with your athletes, their help would be wonderful as well. We will need to give Parks a head count by Thursday, September 3rd so that they can gather the proper number of rakes et al., so if you can volunteer, please let us know or email Bill at [email protected] Bill Allert SITRAC (Staten Island Track Running And Community)

Some tree damage in certain areas of the trail, post tropical storm Isiasis and some have already been cleared. Unfortunately a blower to clean damage did more harm than good in these sections. We will be in need of some volunteers to cover up the underlying stones on a date yet to be determined if anyone wants to help!

It was Tom Hogan’s turn to run the course solo this Friday morning running into Tommy B and keeping the tradition going! The trail is in great shape for Social Distance training.
