Some end of year tax saving tips for 2017: Clean out those closets and donate those items you haven't worn in years. Drop off donation to a legitimate charity. Have a mortgage? Make an extra payment before December 31st. If you are not in the AMT (alternative minimum tax), prepay your 2018 real estate taxes before December 31st. As of now, this will remain deductible unless the IRS disallows it and tweaks it. Additionally and if not in the AMT, if you pay estimated income ...taxes, get your 2017 state income tax payment in before December 31st. Bring to the post office to get proof of mailing before the end of the year. Or pay online if you have an online account. If you are eligible, make IRA contributions before April 15th.
