It’s a beautiful #FarmerFriday, so let’s take a trip out to East Syracuse to visit Cobblestone Creek Farm, owned by Steve and Diane Eggert. This 3rd generati...on farm offers a veggie CSA or you can stop by their farm stand at 7350 Collamer and purchase their fresh produce today and any day except Sunday from 9am-6pm! Size: 100 acres owned, about 15 in vegetable production What We Grow: Our biggest crops are peppers and tomatoes, but we offer over 75 varieties of produce. What We Love About Farming: While we are at the mercy of Mother Nature, it is also a joy to watch what she can do: from turning a seed into a tasty and nutritious vegetable, to watching cranes and muskrats swim the pond, turkeys roam the back fields and white tail deer leap through the tall grasses. It’s frustrating when weather takes its toll on the crops, but a miracle to watch the crops grow into the foods we enjoy. Quote We Live By: It is what it is. Reminds us that Mother Nature has her own agenda and there is nothing we can do about it but go along for the ride. Surprising Facts: Peppers are one of my favorite things to grow. Sweet peppers come in all the colors of the rainbow; beside red and green, we have orange, yellow, chocolate, and purple! Also, we use tunnel production to extend our growing season. Tunnels are like greenhouses but taller and with open ends. We can plant directly into the ground earlier, so tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and more are often ready by early June. Supporting Our Farm: We sell the majority of our veggies through CSA. Our CSA members come out to the farm each week, mid-June to early November, to pick out veggies from the week’s harvest. We truly feel our CSA members are an integral part of our farm family and are welcoming new members for 2020. See more
