Cohoes Visitor Center 30.12.2020

Some observations from a fourth generation Cohoesier: 2020 brought. more meals delivered to seniors; food distributed to those in need; toys delivered to child...ren through Cheer for Children, Holiday Hope and the Cohoes Times gift program, and numerous Church programs; Birthday parades; Phone calls to seniors; Eat on the Street; Expanded food pantries; Face Book worshiping; Zoom family meetings; Virtual learning; On-line concerts; Virtual Holiday concerts from the schools. And countless untold stories of people and businesses looking out for their neighbors. So, no matter if you believe that Cohoes is a Community that Cares or that we are Cohoes Proud or we are celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Cohoes. I know that this community is going to do great things in 2021. See more

I thought that I would share the comments from the Cohoes School District about our first virtual field trip! Thank you, students, teachers, and Mr. Perry who joined in! I hope that many of the students will come to the Cohoes Visitor Center when we reopen! Teaching and learning continues, virtually, at Harmony Hill School! Recently, Harmony Hill 4th Grade students enjoyed a virtual field trip to the Cohoes Visitor Center. Led by Mr. Chuck Mossey, they were greeted from th...e entrance of the center at Remsen Street and Oneida Street. Once inside, the students viewed the 1879 Map & Model of the City of Cohoes and watched the operation of Lock 38 of the Erie Canal. Mr. Mossey then demonstrated the Canal Lock Experience, and students were able to watch a model barge travel upstream and downstream through four lock chambers. Finally, they saw the Power System exhibit, including the belt and pulley system from Harmony Mill. All Fourth Grade students begin their year with a project based inquiry to answer the question, Does Where You Live Matter?. Thank you to Mr. Mossey for integrating the incredible history of our town with this guiding question of our curriculum. See more
