MEET THE ARTIST Rina AC Dweck @rinaacdweck has two pieces included in our Flat Files show curated by @jes_cannon of @f_a_r__x__w_i_d_e ! If you haven’t seen the show yet come on by because it’s also the closing weekend for Traces a solo show by Kyoung Eun KangOPEN today 12-6pm! Rina AC Dweck is a sculpture artist born and raised in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. Dweck received the Paula Rhodes award upon her graduation from The School of Visual Arts MFA Fine Arts program... in 2018. She earned her BS in Studio Art from New York University in 1998. In 2019 Ms. Dweck was awarded the ChaNorth 2018 Alumni solo show. She has exhibited work in numerous group exhibitions including; Collar Works (Troy, NY), Wheaton College Biennial (Norton, MA), 4Heads Governors Island Art Fair (NY), Paradice Palase (Brooklyn, NY) and Microscope Gallery (Brooklyn, NY). My intention is to engage the viewer by triggering a visceral reaction. I utilize space, material, and the familiar to create ephemeral forms. I juxtapose binaries; organic vs. synthetic; readymade vs. handmade; real vs. fake; past alongside present. My practice is informed by my experience as a woman raised in a Middle Eastern, orthodox Jewish enclave. I imbue my work with associations that highlight the internal and evolutionary tug of war between my upbringing and present-day perspective, emphasizing questions of identity. ‘It is not so much what’s on the canvas that matters in this show but rather Kang herself. Shot from behind on a static camera, we see her move and begin to fully inhabit the space. Almost all of her movements are suffused with a balletic grace and thoughtful deliberation. It’s more devotional...There’s a moment where Kang is almost en pointe, which is no small physical accomplishment considering she is barefoot on an unfinished barn floor. Kang’s performance and it is quit...e a performance also reminds us of the true physical rigor that comes with creating visual art...here is Kyoung eun Kang reminding us there are still muses to invoke....’ Collar Works in Troy has risen to the occasion and ably contended with the physical and psychic (pandemic) barriers with Kyoung eun Kang’s Traces: 28 Days in Elizabeth Murray’s Studio, which runs in the gallery at Collar Works until Dec. 13 and online for eternity.’ DON’T FORGET! Join us tonight for an artist talk with Kyoung eun Kang in conversation with Daisy Murray Holman and Robert R. Shane. Go to collarworks.org/calendar to register. Thank you, Patrick Tine and Albany Times Union for this FANTASTIC review! https://www.timesunion.com//Solo-artist-creates-within-spa
