As we prepare for tomorrow’s election, we wanted to share some words from the #ColumbiaNursing Student Council, pictured here using the #ColumbiaVotes photo booth, about this important moment in history. If you haven’t yet voted, make nurses proud and get out there and #vote tomorrow! #BeAColumbiaVoter #ColumbiaVotes Nurses have historically stood on the front lines of mass protests, of pandemics, civil rights, and it is our moment to join that legacy of advocacy and chang...e and exercise our most precious civic duty, the power of casting our vote. We have the opportunity to shift the tide; to make our morals, ethics, and holistic beliefs heard. And to show the nation just how strong the voices of nurses truly are. Never in our lives has an election been so important. The very moral spirit of America is at play, and we as student nurses, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses in training, and nurse-scientists have an important voice in the shaping of our nation. We all come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, that represent a microcosm of what America is: a melting pot of beautiful lives that enrich the very essence of this nation. This is our year, a year for us to stand proud, know the worth of our actions, of our words, that we are nurses, Columbia Nurses. Show your civic engagement using the #ColumbiaVotes photo booth: https://bit.ly/3o6uoJj

MDE-DNP student Robert Trolley is one of many students who are transitioning from learning basic skills to learning about specialized practice this semester. He said, Last week of intensive basic skills. Next week starts mental health. And more coffee. Beginning my mental health nursing rotation, I believe the most important thing is to go into it with an open mind. Focusing on using therapeutic communication is bound to be very different than the hands-on approach we hav...e utilized until now. While ‘talking' might not seem as exciting as those hands-on interventions, helping a patient move towards wellness is still my purpose within nursing. You’ve got this, Robert!

People of color have not been sufficiently represented in health research, which has perpetuated injustice across the field and in broader society. We want to promote health equity by encouraging investigators to expand the body of research related to people of color, said Professor Jacquelyn Taylor to the ManhattanTimes. (page 9)

DNP students have been hard at work learning from our faculty preceptors at the ColumbiaDoctors Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Group in Washington Heights, as a part of their clinical rotation. Pictured here, FNP students Emily Bartlett, Tka Edwards, and Felita Salim work with nurse practitioners Rachel Drolet and Libbie Hall. The students spent their time at the practice fulfilling part of their required clinical rotation for the semester. Each student had the opportunity t...o work directly with patients, practicing physical exams, weekly. DNP-FNP student Felita Salim said, Working with the NPs at the Nurse Practitioner Group was a great experience! It's amazing to see a practice run solely by NPs who provide holistic and compassionate care. The staff was extremely welcoming to us as students and encouraged us to participate in the care of patients from well-check visits to pain management, and much more. Shout out to NP Rachel Drolet, she's awesome!
