It's important to address these problems early on because the lintel supports the load above it. Deteriorated and severely oxidized lintels need to be removed and replaced with primed and painted steel. Temporary shoring is necessary to support the load while the lintel is removed. A properly constructed back up wall should be treated with waterproofing and have a drainage detail including weep holes through the face bricks. On this project CBR removed all deteriorated masonry, parged the backup wall, applied primer, bituthene waterproofing, and installed new bricks with weep holes. CBR recently completed this "recovery roofing system" in Gaco Flash repair for one of our Manhattan residential clients. Gaco is a cold applied, fleece reinforced, liquid system. These modern, light weight, systems are extremely beneficial when a complete roof replacement is not feasible.
