The Community Herb Garden at St. Mary's is a shared resource all of Philipstown is welcome to enjoy. Thanks to Mayor Merandy and Stephanie Hawkins, we also have a few veg this year. In the coming weeks there will be tomatoes, peppers and zucchini for anyone to harvest. Girl Scout Troop 1405 established the garden as a Bronze Award project in 2017, with help from a number of Philipstown neighbors and the support of local businesses and organizations. The garden is named in mem...ory of Cold Spring neighbor, friend and troop Dad Richie Tomlins. We ask community members to claim a week to help us look after the garden through the summer--a link to the signup genius is below. Whenever you/your family can during your week, please pop by to weed, trim, and water. Take a photo or two! Communicate out via the garden's facebook page and the Philipstown Locals page to let folks know what is available for harvest that week. Water can be drawn from the rain barrel donated by Danny & Maggie Valentine. Tools and a watering can donated by C&E Paint are available inside the workbench. Once you've done your weekly tasks, please send Kathleen Foley a message via facebook or at [email protected] so we know all is well on site. THANK YOU SO MUCH! https://www.signupgenius.com//30E0F44A9AA2AABF58-philipsto
Would anyone have two cinder blocks they’d be willing to donate to the community garden? We need them to raise the rain barrel so it’s easier to get the watering can under the spout.
Today’s the day! We’re weeding, mulching and planting in! Many plants wintered over in the mild seasonoregano, tarragon, mint, thyme. We’ll add a bunch of basil, parsley and a few others. Please use the garden all through the season! The community herb garden on St Mary’s south lawn is dedicated to the memory of Girl Scout Troop 1405 Dad and CSFC’s Richie Tomlins.
The Foley-Hedlunds have dried and jarred a combination of herbs from our house and the community garden. Has anyone else put the garden’s herbs by for winter?
We're closing up the garden soon! Please go by and cut what you'd like. Cut lots to dry for winter use! Use, enjoy, share across the community. That's what it's all about. . . AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CARED FOR THE GARDEN THIS SUMMER!!!
We're coming to the end of the season. If you'd like to cut herbs to dry at home, please feel free!
