4 handy mouse tricks you might not be aware of Virtually every computer user knows that clicking on a link or icon will open whatever item that object is pointing to. But did you know there’s a lot more to using your mouse than just visiting links and opening programs.... Check out these four extremely useful mouse tricks: 1 Double-click on a word to select it. This is a lot faster than clicking on the first letter of a word and then dragging the mouse pointer to the end of that word. 2 Triple-click on a word to instantly select the entire paragraph that contains it. This is a lot faster than clicking on the first letter in the paragraph, holding the Shift key, then clicking on the last letter in the paragraph. 3 Click the mouse wheel (press down on it with your finger) to open a link in a new window or tab. This is faster and easier holding the Ctrl key while you click the link. 4 Hold the Ctrl key while rolling the mouse wheel to zoom in or out and change the font size. Hold the Ctrl key and press the 0 key (that’s zero, not the letter O) to return the zoom level and font size to their original states. There you go! Now you know how to use your lowly mouse to do some rather useful tricks. I hope you found them useful!

How to quickly search for a word or phrase on a long web page The amount of information available on the Internet with just a few clicks of the mouse boggles the mind. If all that info was published in a single book it would probably be thick enough to reach all the way to the moon.... That’s why Google and other Internet search engines are so important for helping us find the info we need in a timely manner. But a single web page can hold a lot of information as well, and if you need to find something on a large, congested page it can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Luckily, there is a simple key combination that you can press to display a search box sort of like your web browser’s own personal Google. Here’s how to search the current web page for a specific word or phrase: 1 Press the Ctrl+F key combination. You’ll see a small search box pop up near the top of the screen. 2 Type the word or phrase you wish to find in the search box. As you’re typing, the first occurrence of that word or phrase will automatically be highlighted on the screen. Clicking the words Previous or Next (or the up arrow or down arrow depending on the browser) will highlight the previous or next occurrence of the word or phrase on the page. Happy Searching

Scam alert: Beware the many ‘Coronavirus Stimulus Payment’ scams that are now making the rounds As you surely know, the Coronavirus pandemic has already caused a lot of financial pain for millions of Americans. And unfortunately things are likely to get even worse before they get any better. To help ease the pain for the American people, the US Congress has passed and President Trump has signed a massive $2 trillion economic stimulus bill that includes a provision to provide ...cash payments to most Americans. These stimulus payments’ will be greatly appreciated by the folks who are suffering the most from the economy’s screeching halt, but as you might expect the scammers of the world are already hard at work trying to get their own piece of the stimulus pie. There are currently dozens of stimulus related scams being perpetrated. Here are just a few of the most common ones: 1 The scammer will call you on the phone and claim to be a government representative who’s trying to get your stimulus money to you. All he needs is your personal information and bank account number so Uncle Sam can direct deposit your check into it. 2 The scammer will send you an email asking you to visit a fake, but realistic-looking government website where you’ll be asked to enter your personal info and bank account number. 3 The scammer will send you an official-looking, but fake letter via the postal mail directing you to a fake website. And now for one that’s a bit more scummy than scammy 4 An unethical merchant will mail you what appears to be your stimulus check, but it’s actually a highly deceptive advertisement directing you to call a phone number or even visit a specific physical location to cash the check. When you place the call or visit the designated place the merchant will try to sell you a car or some other high dollar item (depending on the nature of that business). As I mentioned above, these are just the most common forms of the scam. There are many other forms going around as well. Regardless of how the scammers contact you, their goal will be the same. They want to trick you into handing over your personal information and bank account number so they can steal your identity and attempt to steal whatever money happens to be in your bank account. What’s more, they’ll even take your real stimulus money just as soon as it lands in your account! This is why you need to be extremely careful and due your own due diligence before responding to ANY correspondence of any kind from someone claiming to try to help you receive your stimulus payment.

Why you should avoid using your phone in public places during this Coronavirus ordeal Right now many of us are on virtual lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but there are times when it’s still necessary to venture out to a public place. After all, we do have to eat and perform other essential tasks. You’re probably well aware of the social distancing guidelines we’ve been asked to follow, but there’s another danger that you might not have thought about: your phone!... Regardless of how careful you might be while browsing the aisles of your local grocery store, it’s actually quite easy to catch this virus from your very own mobile phone. For example, let’s say you’re busy shopping for the items on your list. You’re probably in a hurry because you want to get out of the crowded store as soon as possible so you’re likely a bit distracted. Now your phone rings. Do you answer it? Most likely you will, especially if you believe the call could be important. But here’s the thing: Remember all those products you’ve already picked up and either placed back on the shelf or tossed into your shopping cart? If someone infected with the Covid-19 virus happened to handle one of them before you did, there’s a good chance the virus was transmitted from that item to your hands. Now guess what happened when you pulled out your phone to answer the call? That’s right the virus is now on your phone! That means when you place the phone on your ear and start talking there’s a real danger that the virus will find its way onto your face. And that, as they say, is not a good thing. Bottom line: I strongly recommend that you refrain from handling your phone while you’re in a public place, especially if you’ve been handling merchandise or anything else that others have likely touched before you got to it. And be sure to carefully sanitize your phone after you get home! Be Safe Everyone !!! See more

Schedule text messages or reminders to be sent at a later time with your Android phone Have you ever wished you could schedule a text message to be sent at a future date and time? I have, and there are plenty of situations where such a capability would come in handy. For example, let’s say you have a friend whose birthday is coming up in a few days and you want to make sure you don’t forget to send him a Happy Birthday text.... Or perhaps you need to remind your spouse about an upcoming doctor appointment but you’re afraid you might forget about it yourself before the appointment date arrives. A great free Android app called ‘Do It Later’ will allow you to schedule SMS text messages to be sent at a later date and time. Do It Later is very easy to use and extremely lightweight, which means it won’t slow down your phone or drain your battery reserve.

Did you know that Google keeps a record of all the passwords you have stored in your Chrome browser and your signed-in Android devices right on their website? Well, they do, and there’s an easy way to view all of those stored passwords at one time. That makes it easy to quickly retrieve a password that you might have forgotten. That record of all your stored passwords is kept at a special URL on Google’s website, and you can see it at https://passwords.google.com.... After you click the link to visit that page you’ll be asked to sign to your account with your Google password. Once you are signed in you’ll be presented with a list of all the stored passwords that Google has access to at the moment. Every account that’s listed on this page will have the password obscured by a row of dots, but you can reveal any password simply by clicking the eye icon that’s located right beside it.

How to instantly silence any ringing smartphone Have you ever been in a setting where complete silence was expected only to have your smart phone start ringing? Whether it was during a church service, an important business meeting or in a packed movie theater, it was probably quite an embarrassing event.... In all likelihood you panicked and started fumbling around trying to get the phone out of your pocket so you could tap Decline as quickly as possible to make the ringing stop. That’s never a pleasant experience! Well, just in case that ever happens again (and it probably will), remember that you can instantly silence most any ringing smartphone by simply pressing any physical button. That’s right, you don’t have to formally decline a call by tapping that option on the screen. Simply press any button that’s located anywhere on your phone and it’ll stop ringing immediately. What’s more, you probably won’t even have to remove your phone from your pocket or purse. Simply grab the phone with your entire hand and give it a squeeze. You’re virtually guaranteed to press a button in the process. Of course it helps to know in advance where the buttons on your particular phone are located, so I recommend that you take a minute or two on occasion to practice pressing the buttons without actually looking at your phone.
