Lake Placid Land Conservancy 16.12.2020

Welcome to our campaign to save the land and views at Echo Bay on Lake Placid. Our project is about more than about saving land. This property is not only home to Lake Placid’s best and most iconic views of Whiteface Mt., it was the former home of Camp Woodsmoke, a long-running children’s camp that forged friendships and bonds to our community and the Adirondacks for generations. We want to protect the land and it’s resources from future development, but we also hope to prese...rve the space that holds decades of fond memories by so many of our friends and neighbors. Thank you to everyone who has supported our efforts so far. If you haven’t yet, please consider donating. We only have until December 15th to raise the funding - every dollar matters! I’m pretty sure that if you think of the Adirondacks in winter, a picture like this may enter your mind. Happy Friday! #adirondacks #conservation #snowonsnow #ausableriver

A very thoughtful read discussing the impact of non-native and invasive plants on insect and bird populations. We’re seeing this globally, including in the Adirondacks. The takeaway... ... Tallamy and his co-authors concede that critical gaps in our knowledge remain. But they conclude that at this point enough studies have been completed and enough evidence gathered that, in Tallamy’s words, ‘we can now definitively answer the question, ‘Are alien plants bad?’ In terms of supporting insects, the preponderance of the evidence says yes.’
