The Continental 1 community mourns the passing of Jim Phillips, a C1 Board member for as long as any of us can remember, who sadly passed away late last week. Jim added his influence and knowledge to the discussion to complete Route 219, resulting in the transformative extension at Springville that opened in 2010, and has been the go-to person for CanAm trade in our region for three decades. Jim will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him.

The gentleman with "219" written on his forehead is Henry Cook, Continental 1 Chairman. Congratulations to Henry for his retirement this past week as President & CEO of Somerset Trust Company, where he's been an institution for 50 years. Thanks to Henry for his passionate leadership in the community, and to #Complete219!

Very pleased to see John Vatavuk recognized by TGCC. John's leadership truly paved the way for the new 11-mile highway on US219 to be completed! https://www.dailyamerican.com//article_2d86c293-42c9-578f-

When, after 40 years, we opened the brand new 11-mile section of US219 in Somerset County, PA in November, someone asked the question, "How is a project that people have been talking about for 40 years to complete still important?" The easy answer is this: "The reason people are still talking about it 40 years later is because it's THAT important." Check out the 219 news from 50 years ago today (thanks to the Olean Times Herald for the history!) http://www.oleantimesherald.com//article_7cf63e18-0fdc-528

As we set our sites on the southernmost portion of US 219 in Pennsylvania, it was great to see such a strong turnout from the community at Tuesday evening's public meeting. #Complete219 https://www.tribdem.com//article_d7d43b60-55bd-11e9-8b9d-4

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend and colleague John Vatavuk, who passed away on Sunday following a brief battle with cancer. For three decades, John has been perhaps the most avid champion for the completion of Route 219, and it was with great joy and emotion that he delivered remarks at the recent ribbon-cutting for the new highway connecting Meyersdale and Somerset. His impact on Continental 1's efforts and Somerset County will be long-remembered, as will his beautiful persona and giving spirit. Please join us in remembering John.
