One of the world’s leading evolutionary biologists, Dr. Svante Pääbo is giving a virtual seminar, TOMORROW, March 2nd @ 8:45AM. By applying genomic methods to ancient DNA from hominin specimens dating back tens to hundreds of thousands of years, Dr. Pääbo led the group that generated the first genome sequence of Neanderthals and described Denisovans for the first time. EEB is co-sponsoring the event, and has chosen Dr. Pääbo as the 2021 Harrison Lecturer. This just in! EEB faculty Abby Drake, Justin St. Juliana, Michelle Smith, and Maren Vitousek join forces with 5 other Cornell profs and former postdoc Clara Meaders on a large collaborative project to collect and address common student questions about succeeding in introductory STEM courses. The team hopes educators will use this work and the complied resources to proactively anticipate and address questions on the minds of students. Check out their recently published, Frontiers in Education paper: "What Questions Are on the Minds of STEM Undergraduate Students and How Can They Be Addressed?" https://www.frontiersin.org//10.3389/feduc.2021.639338/full (photo courtesy of Cornell University; Lindsay France, UREL).
