Seatbelt law update BE ADVISED - Effective November 1, 2020, subdivision 3 of section 1229-c of the Vehicle and Traffic Law is amended to require that back sea...t passengers in a motor vehicle who are sixteen years of age or older be restrained by a safety belt. A citation for a violation of this law must be issued only to the passenger. The maximum fine for a conviction is $50.00 plus the applicable surcharge(s). Front seat passengers age sixteen or older are already required to use a safety belt. Seatbelts save lives!! See more
