Please read and share. From Bob De Sena: We have 2 MS 13 members who requested to join CFU at Suffolk County Correctional. Many both in the facility and in law enforcement felt that's an impossibility within this group. It's a statement of hope in a time of division and despair. It demonstrates what we've known over our 45 year history that Council for Unity can breach any barrier and bend swords into plowshares.... CFU can redeem those considered lost or unreachable and give to them the self worth and discipline they need to begin a new life. Here's his statement, which had to be translated from Spanish to English by another Latino inmate. I was shocked at the depth of his honesty and intelligence: ''I write this letter for this program as a sign of gratitude and also explaining the change that the past days have caused. Special thanks to Bob for accepting me in this family and to be a part of his vision.The first thing I learned from Bob is that he isn't a hypocrite and he specially works to change lives and an example of this fact is that he knows I can't properly speak the same language and that it is difficult to communicate. He didn't exclude me from the group and gave me an opportunity to help me identify and confront my dragons. I have seen that everyone has dragons/problems and to realize we are not alone. Council for Unity gives us a chance to change our lives with its support. We know we can't change the past but that there is second chances in life, and this program offers us the tools to change the future and the future of our loved ones. I have learned not to be selfish and to listen to others and give my advice to help them control their dragons. Also to explore our unknown surroundings like the boy in the Dragon Slayer story when he went into the forest opening many opportunities for his future. I am also learning to speak and understand English, realistically I have now achieved a great change for myself and seek a good future for me and my family. I have learned to analyze my problems and achieve positivity and thanks for becoming part of my life, Council for Unity.'' His friend, also from MS 13, will be writing his letter next week. D

From Bob De Sena: Just saw a post on Facebook that our beloved Jessica Ascencio passed. I'm in total shock. She always shared her support and excitement for all our initiatives with me on Facebook. Devastated. I knew she battled cancer some years ago but thought she beat it. I still can't believe it.
