FEMALES: Female dogs will go into heat every 6 months and stay in heat for 21 days. They will have a bloody discharge from their vulva and many females will become anxious or short-tempered during this time. Female cats are induced ovulators which means that an external stimulus will trigger ovulation. Heat cycles in female cats can start as early as 4... to 5 months and continue every 2 to 3 weeks until she becomes pregnant or is spayed. Spaying female cats and dogs reduces their risk of mammary cancer and uterine infections.
