Serving as an incubator for the creation of new work, CPR Center for Performance Research invites the public into the artistic process through Performance Studio Open House, a monthly series of informal works-in-progress showings held regularly throughout the year. Each installment is curated by a distinct CPR staff member or affiliate, and features a diverse group of choreographers and dancers from CPR’s community of renters. We are thrilled to showcase works by Lu Yim, Nami Yamamoto, and Stuart B Meyers! Join us on Thursday, October 22nd at 6:30pm for our virtual Performance Studio Open House. You don't want to miss this!

This month's Performance Philosophy Reading Group is hosted by CPR 2020 AiR Londs Reuter along with Programs Manager, Remi Harris @remiharris_ . A note from Londs: "Private Inventory is a movement practice for individuals to be accountable to their bodily material -- its nuance, its mundanity, its wild capacity. Londs Reuter has developed a logic system to distill and examine a moment of action and question it further, asking, why this dance? What allowed for this movement? ...And how might this dance end? Private Inventory offers the reader a chance to examine their own matter and acknowledge this resource. The hope is: if we know what we have, the better chance we'll use our resources well." This reading will take place on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30pm. RSVP at [email protected] for the selection and zoom link. ASL interpretation available upon request. . Born in Atlanta, Georgia and now a Brooklyn-based resident, Deborah (Dee) Conton continues to spread their guidance work via Tarot and other forms of divination. Her work also includes dancing and research in dealing with Black Social Dance via Club Culture. She was a 2019 artist in residence at CPR. Dee Spark Tarot came into existence in 2018 as a way of connecting with not only her lineage, but those who are Queer, Trans, Gender nonconforming and those who may feel that spi...ritual work is inaccessible. CPR Presents Mysticism, Astrology & Tarot for a New Creative Moment (Era?) is an experimental collaborative platform centered around the topics of mysticism, tarot, and astrology. Stuart B Meyers and Deborah Conton (Dee Spark Tarot) will offer insights into their connection to spirituality, astrology, dreams and imagery work, their distinct tarot methods, and how these systems inform their creative practice. This discussion will serve as an entry point for (virtual) connection and collective dialogue. Join us on October 14th at 6:30pm on zoom, link in bio. We love to hear your thoughts and share the virtual space with you!

Inspired by the overlap in his queer and Jewish identities, Stuart B Meyers @stuartbmeyers creates shapeshifting, time-defying performance works which crack open perspectives, awakening audiences to their bodies and spirits. Stuart’s worked alongside Robert Wilson, Colette Sadler, Nick Cave, Ann Liv Young and Tino Sehgal, and has performed internationally in venues including Martin Gropius Bau (Berlin), The Stedelijk (Amsterdam), Schaubuhne (Berlin), Southbank Centre (London)..., The Park Avenue Armory, The High Line, and The Shed (NYC). Currently, he is internationally touring his ritual-performance "*The Shabbos Queen*, a queer, DIY & Dreamy Shabbat Dinner Delight & Extravaganza," teaches folks how to love themselves, and then somebody else as the character Yenta, and is rebooting his 2015 solo WITCH DANCE, a meditation on Mary Wigman's seminal solo. Stuart's received support from the Berlin Cultural Senate, the BK Arts Council, and the NEA, and is a 2019-2021 NYLA Fresh Tracks Artist & CPR AIR, a 2018 danceWeb Scholar, and reads Tarot as well as practices Dream Opening through Kabbalah via The School of Images. Ma'at Works Dance Collective was founded in 2017 by Ama Ma'at Gora. It is a project-based company that has presented at Georgian Court University (2017), Movement Research (2018), Koresh Artist Showcase (2018), "Uptown Rising": Bridge for Dance (2018), Temple University (2018) and more. We are time documenters, storytellers, and political activists who give movement narrative. We craft vernacular movement practices that discuss and link personal experiences, historical conten...t and sociopolitical injustices surrounding the brown body. We seek to reclaim dance as a communal practice for all, taking it out of its hierarchical placement and giving it back to the people. . .
