A Brazilian futurist fever-dream... streaming Friday, 11/20 through Thursday, 11/26 FilmColumbia co-artistic director and former senior film curator at MOMA Laurence Kardish brings us this dystopian, fluorescent Sci Fi, sexy tale. Fast forward six years and Brazil has become an evangelical state where marriage is venerated, children are blessed, heterosexual sex (even without spouses) praised, and divorce is considered an apostasy. This week in our Virtual Screening Room, we applaud one of Columbia County's Oscar-winning filmmakers, Deborah Shaffer who has co-directed and co-produced a film about a most remarkable trail-blazing artist Audrey Flack, Queen of Hearts. Shown as a work-in-progress at FilmColumbia in 2019, Queen of Hearts is now just released to virtual cinemas nationwide and the Crandell is delighted to present this intimate portrait of this pioneering woman. The film is co-directed by Rachel Reichman and co-produced by Amy Sultan. We are also extending City Hall, Frederick Wiseman's compelling documentary which explores the government of Boston, Massachusetts. The film had its world premiere at the 77th Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2020.
