The Third Sunday of Advent

First Baptist Church of Cooperstown 20.11.2020

We are blessed to be able to work with Ministerios de Fe Nueva Vida in Azacualpa, Honduras. Since the hurricanes this fall, missionary Dilia Castro has been working to ensure that people who suffered horrific losses feel the love of God. This has meant preparing meals and delivering food and cleaning supplies. Today she traveled to Joconales near the border of Guatemala, where people walked up to three hours for pick up. If you would like to provide financial assistance for more supplies, you can do so through PayPal at https://fbccooperstown.org/ or by mailing a check to 21 Elm Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326. Mark your donation "Honduras."

We will be practicing social distancing (many pews are roped off) and masks are required. We will also be streaming to Facebook for those who can't or prefer not to attend in person. We look forward to gathering together and pray for God's blessings as we prepare for worship.

Happy Banishment Day! On this day in 1635, Rodger Williams was banished from Massachusetts for preaching religious tolerance and other new and dangerous opinions. He and his friends were driven into the New England wilderness where they found refugee with the Wampanoag. Williams advocated for peaceful and respectful relations with native Americans, and purchased land for a new settlement. They founded the colony of Rhode Island as a refugee where people of all faiths or n...o faith could live without persecution. Williams also founded the first Baptist church in North America. His spiritual descendants continue to insist on the four Baptist freedoms: an absolute separation of church and state, the centrality or scripture over any creed, the priesthood of all believers, and the autonomy of each local church.
