This week, Cuba Library assistant Janet recommends that fans of James Patterson will enjoy Three Women Disappear. Anthony Castello, an accountant for the mob, is found dead in his kitchen. Three women had access to his home and all have disappeared. Anna Castello is Anthony's widow, Serena is the maid and Sarah was Anthony's personal chief. All three had reasons to hate Anthony. Sarah is also the ex-wife of police detective Sean Walsh. Who killed Anthony Castello and why? These are questions the police and Anthony's uncle want answered. This book will definitely hold your attention and has a great ending. Three Women Disappear would make a really good Whodunit movie.

NOTE: For those who already completed the first art journal exercise, we have smaller kits with some construction paper for this new exercise. Learn a new method of creative expression with library page Rylee Peacock as she shows you how to start an art journal (or continue working on the journal you already started!). New students will receive a kit with a journal, a pen and some supplies to complete the journaling exercise. In addition to the supplies provided, you are wel...come to add drawings, decorations, or other art mediums. The craft video with the journaling prompt will be posted on Monday, January 11th at 7 pm on the library Facebook page. Please hold on to your journals and keep an eye out for future prompts, but feel free to do additional journaling on your own as well. Stop by the library anytime to pick up your kit. Supplies are limited. This program is sponsored in part by Friends of the Cuba Library, Inc.

Are you between the ages of 0 and 18 (or the parent of someone ages 0-18)? Are you creative? Join us in celebrating International Creativity Month by dropping off one of your latest creations, which will be hung on the large bulletin board in the children’s area. We may feature it on our Facebook and Instagram page individually or in a group. Projects must be two-dimensional (flat) in order to hang well on the board. Please fill out the form provided at the library. If you are interested in participating but unable to come to the library, please email us a photo of your art and include your name, age, and a sentence about it. Projects will be up for the month of January. Earlier projects will come down first to make room for newer ones as necessary. PS Everyone is creative and we are challenging you to find your creativity this month!

The Village of Cuba's facebook page has posted tentative Halloween Trick-or Treat hours and safety guidelines. For those of you who do not feel comfortable going out there are many alternatives. Perhaps you could have a scavenger hunt, indoors or out depending on where you live and the weather. For the very young play I spy and hide the treats around your home. Have a story hour and or watch a movie. The library offers several Halloween books your children will enjoy. We have them on display making them easier to locate and checkout. We also offer a great collection of movies, especially in the adult area. Have you seen The Phantom Tour: 13 Most Haunted Places in WNY, Halloween II, Rosemary's Baby, Scary Movie 4 or The Visit? (This last movie was very creepy!!) Let us help you and your family have a safe Halloween.

Young thinkers explore the ideas of Leonardo Da Vinci through his notebook sketches, showing how his ideas foreshadowed modern inventions. Students construct, examine and explain simple machines to develop a deeper understanding of how they make work easier. Cuba Library assistant Janet shares this review: "This week I am writing about an older book, published in 1976, entitled The Acorn People by Ron Jones and illustrated by Tom Parker. A high school student recommended this book to me over 20 years ago. Seeing acorns on the ground and the fact that this young gentleman's birthday is this month made me want to read this book again. I must admit it is one of my favorite books! The Acorn People is a true story based on a summ...er the author spent working at a camp for disabled children. It is a story that will fill you with joy and tug at you heartstrings. (Be sure to read the epilogue!) The story takes place at Camp Wiggin. It is a Scout camp--not a camp that has been adapted to accommodate children with special needs. Read how camp counselors help these children overcome prejudice and weakness. Not only do the children gain self-confidence but the counselors also learn a great deal from these very special children. You will find The Acorn People in the juvenile non-fiction section of the Cuba Circulating Library. It is a must-read!
