We at CUEMS stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and black communities fighting injustice. We mourn and remember the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless victims of systemic racism. As an EMS organization, we recognize the inherent racial bias that pervades the medical world and disproportionately harms people of color, especially black women. No institution in this country is free of the systematic racism th...at is ingrained in our past and plagues our present. This racism will continue into the foreseeable future unless drastic changes are made. A post on social media is nowhere near sufficient to make these changes, and we recognize this. We have compiled a few resources on racism and bias in the medical community. We encourage everyone, especially within the medical community, to speak up, educate themselves, and take action against racism to create lasting change. Unfortunately, due to developments on campus due to COVID-19, we will not be able to offer EMT-B certification course sponsorships for the summer term. Please check back here or on our website later this summer for information regarding Fall course sponsorship and membership. Stay safe everyone!
Interested in becoming an EMT or joining CUEMS? Want to serve your community, gain clinical experience, and build relationships with a wonderful and passionate corps? If you already have a valid EMT license and valid driver's license (both of these are absolutely required), you can apply for membership to join CUEMS. If you do not have a valid EMT license, you can apply for a sponsorship course to get one (no prior experience required). There will be two information sessions ...held in Hamilton (check signage in the lobby for room number) from 9pm - 10pm on Tuesday, January 28th, and Wednesday, January 29th. You must attend one of these info sessions if you would like to be considered for either sponsorship or membership. Please be on time, as doors will close at 9pm sharp! CUEMS is committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization, and we strongly encourage students of all backgrounds to attend an information session and consider being a part of our corps. E-mail [email protected] for more information or with questions.

Director N. Danev and Captain K. Stephan at the 2nd CUEMS Advisory Board Meeting. After lots of preparation, including satisfaction surveys, meetings with members, stakeholders and administration; decisive action is being taken to ensure we not only fulfill our mission of providing free medical care to the Columbia and Morningside Heights communities, but also to continue the upward trends of growth and improvement within the corps.
