Tape release Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 I’m saddened to announce the passing of retiree Robert Price. Bob retired in 1996 as a Switch tech with over 26 years of service. He was living in Florida at the time of his death, no arrangements have been announced at this time. On behalf of the Union, we extend our condolences to Bob’s family and friends. I’d also like to recognize Network Carrier tech Kip Drennon. Kip retired on January 31st with over 34 years of service. On be...half of the Union, I’d like to wish Kip a long and enjoyable retirement and thank him for his many years of membership to this Union. Tape Release 2/25/2021 To all Retirees: Please be aware of heavily marketed Medicare plans that you see on tv or mailings to your house. The federal government extended the Medicare sign up period to March 1st and companies like Well Care are taking advantage of it. We recently had a retiree respond to a Well Care Medicare Advantage advertisement and his MVP Gold insurance was cancelled with Frontier. To be clear, if you sign up with another Medicare Advantage Plan, your F...rontier sponsored plan will get cancelled. These plans sound great $0 premium, they are nothing more than Medicare Plans Part A and B. Your Frontier sponsored plans are much better, even though there is a monthly premium. If you have any questions, please call the office. Also, there is a major scam going on where unemployment insurance claims are getting filed on your behalf, don’t ask me how but it's happening. It has happened both to my wife and I. If it has happened to you, it may not be a bad idea to pull your credit report to see if any other information or your identity has been stolen. Tape Release 2/18/2021 Membership Updates: The Local is proud to announce that we have made a decision on a new legal plan for the members and retirees, due to the retirement of Dan Walters who provided services to this Local for close to 40 years. We will be mailing an introductory letter from the law firm of Demarco and Taylor, along with a summary of the services provided by the plan, within the next week or two. The plan will cover, at no cost to you, simple and living ...wills, a Health care proxy, and free 30 minute consultation to discuss any legal matters, as well as flat fees for Real Estate Closings, vehicle and traffic tickets, DWI’s, Town code violations, and Simple trusts. If you should need any service prior to receiving the plan information, please call the office. The Local is required by our By-laws to present our annual Audit and Budget by the Finance Committee to the general membership at a meeting for approval. Due to the covid restrictions, the Board has approved the following method of voting. The budget has been placed on our website in the Member Resource section for your review. You’ll receive a letter via email, if we have one on record, or letter with ballot if we don’t, with voting instructions. The email and letters will be going out tomorrow. The Executive Board also approved the purchase of a Fiber placement to the Union Hall from Frontier, which will provide enhanced broadband capabilities for both our office and the tenant of our building. For those of you who don’t know, our long term tenant CVS Health has shut down operations on Lake Ave. We have contracted with Flaum Commercial Real Estate to find a new tenant. We're hoping for a medical facility to provide services to the neighborhood. We have been notified by Frontier that we’ll be receiving the guaranteed minimum bonus payout of 4.5% payable in the month of March. Last year it was paid on March 5th. Tape Release January 22, 2021 I’m saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our CWA Brother Derrick Burroughs. Derrick was a Communication Coordinator I working out of the Commercial Customer Support Center at Plymouth Fitzhugh St. He started his career with Frontier in April of 1994, having worked for almost 26 years. During his career he worked in various clerical responsibilities such as Recent Change and LAC. He has left us way to early as he was only 52 years ol...d. On behalf of the Union I extend our sympathies to Derrick’s family and friends and he will be greatly missed. I will update the tape once we receive the announcement on the arrangements. Tape Release Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 Today is a good day for the American worker as Joe Biden has been sworn in as President. His nominee for Secretary of Labor is former President of Laborers Local 223 and President of the Building Trades Council in Boston. He has pledged to work to defend worker’s rights, strengthen collective bargaining, create millions of good paying jobs with investment in infrastructure, clean energy and high-tech manufacturing. He couldn’t be ...further opposite from the current Secretary of Labor Scalia who is a former corporate attorney for Walmart. The Federal Communications Commission has approved Frontier’s bankruptcy plan moving them one step closer to exiting bankruptcy. We haven’t any further information on any other issues related to Bankruptcy. The Local is now open for business as the officers have recovered from a Covid outbreak. The Union is saddened to announce the passing of Rochester Telephone Retiree Teddy Tedesco on January 7th, 2021 at the age of 97. Ted retired as a Garage Mechanic with many years of service and he will be missed by all who knew him. The following arrangements have been announced:... Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 12th 10am - 12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. Burial will be held privately at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary. Our condolences go out to Teddy's Family & Friends.
