Preston Smith 59 of 115 Elm St., Hornell, died unexpectedly on Saturday (February 27, 2021) at his home. Born in New York City on June 2, 1961, he was the son of Calvin & Thomasina (Swain) Smith, Sr. Preston grew up in New York City and was a graduate of Gompers High School (class of 1979). He was a 7 year Veteran of the US Army, serving his country in many locations, including Germany & Korea.... Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, Preston returned to New York City and was employed as a Tele-Communications Installing Technician. He had resided in the Hornell area for the past five years and was employed in the housekeeping and maintenance department at Elderwood Nursing Facility. Being from New York City, Preston enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees, New York Mets and the New York Knicks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Lane Smith; his father, Calvin Smith, Sr; and his sister, Annette Marie Smith-Wilson. Surviving are his mother, Thomasina Smith-Carter of NYC; 2 brothers, Calvin Smith of NYC and Eric Pierce of Brooklyn, NY; several cousins, nieces & nephews. There will be no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. Egbert Ward E.W. Phillips (89) of 2836 State Route 244, Belmont, NY died unexpectedly Saturday evening (February 20, 2021) at his home. Born in the Town of Ward on August 17, 1931, he was the son of Egbert & Lillian (Austin) Phillips. E.W. grew up in the Phillips Creek & Alfred area and was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School (class of 1948). He later attended Alfred State College.... In 1950, E.W. enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He served 19 months in Korea and was stationed in Japan for about a year. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Following his honorable discharge, E.W. worked as a Jack of All Trades, including truck driver, cabinet maker, plumber and general farming. For over 30 years, he was employed at the Erie Railroad, Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, Delaware & Hudson (D & H) Railroad, NYS&W Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1993 as an engineer. E.W. enjoyed coin collecting & stamp collecting and had been a member of the Dansville Moose Lodge and the Canisteo American Legion. He was married in 1954 to the former Viola Simons who died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gene Adelle Phillips and Eloise Mae Draggett. Surviving are his children, Wanda (Tom) Perry of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy (Paul) Coleman of Almond, Dale (Robin Davis) Phillips of the Town of Ward, Troy (Andrea) Phillips of the Town of Ward and Donna (Bill Huber) Phillips of Dansville; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Lucy Lantz, 105 years young, of Hornell, died early Wednesday morning (February 17, 2021) at Hornell Gardens where she resided for the past 15 years. Born in Hornell on November 1, 1915, she was the daughter of Ludwig & Margaret (Mosley) Lantz. Lucy grew up in Hornell and for 37 years resided in Newark, NY. She returned to the Hornell area where she resided for the past 50 years.... An avid bingo player, Lucy enjoyed putting together complicated jigsaw puzzles, framing them and giving them as gifts to family & friends. She was a self-proclaimed Social Butterfly with a great sense of humor and a true music lover who enjoyed dancing with her sister, Sophie. Lucy had a deep affection for animals and would often take-in stray dogs & cats, providing food & shelter for her four-legged friends. Although Lucy was never blessed with children of her own, she seemed to have adopted the entire community. She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ludwig Lantz and William Lantz; and her sister, Sophie Lantz with whom she resided with for most of her life. Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces and great-great-great nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her many friends, especially the staff & residents at Hornell Gardens. The family of Lucy Lantz will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. Funeral & committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4:00 PM with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Final interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell, NY. On February 17, 2021, Mary Catherine Bromwell, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at age 97. On July 12, 1923, Mary was born to Stephen and Emma Muth in Philadelphia, PA. She married James A. Bromwell on May 6, 1944. Most of their married life they resided in Ottsville, PA, members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where they raised four children. Mary had to leave school after the eighth grade to support her family farm during ...the Depression. She developed a strong work ethic. Mary was a doer and a helper. During WWII she left the family farm to work in Philadelphia at the Naval Shipyard where she welded on several ships including the Battleship New Jersey. Mary went back to school in her forties and became a Licensed Practical Nurse and began a career in nursing at Doylestown Hospital. She ended her career in the Nursery on the Maternity Floor where she lovingly cared for newborns. Being kind and generous, Mary loved spending time with her family and friends. A few of her favorite pastimes included travel, playing pinochle, gardening, walking through the woods, sitting on the porch, day trips to the beach, and eating pie. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Jim; and her two sisters, Vera Pursell and Anna Scheetz McCarty. She was also predeceased by her lifelong friend of eighty plus years, Gladys Proca. Mary is survived by her children James (Anna) Bromwell, John (Charlene) Bromwell, Mary (Ed) Schaible, and Patricia (James) Housworth. She is also survived by her grandchildren James J. (Tracy) Bromwell, Kristine Koehler, James (Julie) DeSousa, John Patrick Bromwell, Cory Treadway, Leonard Treadway, James (Stacy) Housworth, Zack (Ally) Housworth, and Alex (Kristen) Housworth. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Heather DeSousa, John Koehler, Megan, Colin, and Rheanna Bromwell, Logan and Aiden Treadway, and Joseph Housworth. Mary leaves behind special nieces and nephews along with dear friends. At Mary’s request there will be no prior calling hours. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be announced at a later date. Linda S. Youngs 73 of 6649 State Route 415, Bath, NY, died Thursday morning (December 3, 2020) at Arnot Ogden Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Corning on September 14, 1947, she was the daughter of John & Ann (Briensiky) Petrowsky. Linda grew up in Prattsburgh, NY and was a graduate of Prattsburgh High School (class of 1965). She later attended Corning Community College, Majoring in Accounting.... She was employed for a time at H&R Block, preparing taxes and for over 20 years served as a Taxi Driver in Corning, NY. Linda was an avid Bingo player and also loved watching both NBA and WNBA games on TV. She enjoyed crocheting; talking & texting with her friends on the phone and was active on Facebook. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gary Whible and her second husband, Leonard Youngs Sr. Surviving are her daughter, Julie (Gary) Goodrich of Ohio; her son, John Youngs of Bath; 3 grandchildren; many step-children & grand-stepchildren. Denise M. Brierton 62 of 16 Colonial Lawns St., Bath, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon (December 1, 2020) at her home. Born in Watertown, NY on September 28, 1958, she was the daughter of Peter & Ruth Brierton. Denise grew up in Black River, NY and was a graduate of Carthage Central High School (class of 1976). She later received her Registered Nursing License from Farmingdale College on Long Island, NY.... Denise compassionately worked as a nurse at various area hospitals over the years. She also served as a school nurse at Bradford Central School in Bradford, NY. In her younger years, Denise enjoyed camping with her family & friends. Throughout the years she loved riding motorcycles and also riding horses. She also enjoyed spending much time gardening, quilting, sewing and crafting. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth and her sister, Anne Brierton. Surviving are her children, Lucas Kanik of Corning, Sarah Kanik of San Francisco, CA and Jerred Higbie of Campbell; her father, Peter (Karen) Brierton of Watertown, NY; 2 brothers, Michael (Laura) Brierton of Chittenango, NY and Robert Brierton of Calcium, NY; her sister, Cindy (T.J.) Peter R. Pete Robbins 71 of 110 Myrtle Ave., Hornell, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon (December 19, 2020) shortly after arriving at St. James Hospital. Born in Hornell on September 14, 1949, he was the son of Harold & Helen (Colomaio) Robbins. Pete grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of the former St. Ann School and Hornell High School (class of 1967). He later graduated from Broome Community College (SUNY Binghamton) with an Associates Degree in Business Admini...stration. He was employed for several years in the admissions department of the former St. James Mercy Hospital and for over 30 years worked for the City of Hornell Department of Public Works, retiring in 2010. Pete was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. He was a member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus, Hornell Elks Lodge, the Hornell Association, the AMVETS, Sons of the American Legion and a former member of the Hornell Moose Lodge. Pete was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and also enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees & New York Mets. He especially enjoyed the time spent simply walking his dog and visiting with his many friends along the route. A loving husband, father, son & grandfather, Pete will be remembered for deep love of his family; his friendly smile; and his affection for his many friends throughout the Hornell community. Pete was preceded in death by his father, Harold Robbins who died in 1982. He was married on April 17, 1982 to the former Patricia Patti Lorow who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Mike (Kristina) Robbins of North Hornell and Brian (Shasta) Robbins of Moore, SC; his mother, Helen Robbins of Hornell; 2 grandsons, Connor Robbins and Theoden Theo Robbins, his mother-in-law, Geraldine Lorow; aunts, uncles, several cousins, nieces & nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his canine companion, Killian. The family of Peter R. Lynne A. Stewart 75 of Hornell, formerly of Woodbine Ave., Rochester, died Wednesday morning (December 23, 2020) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility. Born in Rochester on September 11, 1945, she was the daughter of Harold and Arleen (Metzler) Roth. Lynne grew up in the Rochester area and was a graduate of Rush-Henrietta High School (class of 1963). She later attended college in New York City.... A resident of Rochester for most of her adult life, Lynne had been employed for over 15 years as a cashier/manager of Star Market in Rochester. For 21 years she served as a librarian at Marshall High School. Throughout the years, Lynne held a fondness for the outdoors. She enjoyed camping, fishing & hiking and also enjoyed going to the stock car races. She also loved spending time crocheting and creating beautiful quilts. She was also a gifted artist who especially enjoyed pencil sketching. Lynne was married on August 23, 1969 to Ralph Stewart who survives. Also surviving are her son, William Bill Stewart of Hornell; 2 brothers, Roger Roth of Florida and Jim (Sandy) Roth of Henrietta; 1 sister, Lee Hartwell of Hopewell Center, NY; 4 grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Robinson, Michel Stewart, Collin Stewart and Colten Stewart; 3 great-grandchildren, Weston Robinson, Ryder Robinson and Jett William Stewart; several nieces & nephews. Charles B. Slaght 90 formerly of Hornell, died Sunday afternoon (November 29, 2020) at the Hill Haven Nursing Home in Penfield, NY, following a long illness. Born in Hornell on November 15, 1930, he was the son of Charles & Ida (Lounsberry) Slaght. Charles grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1949). Following high school graduation, he was employed for about a year as a clerk at the Erie Railroad Accounting Bureau.... He was a four year Veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country during the Korean Conflict having been stationed in Japan. For most of his adult life, Charles lived in the Rochester area. For several years he served as an orderly at Genesee Hospital and for many years had been employed as a Purchasing Agent or Buyer for the former Sibley’s Department Store Book Department in Rochester. Throughout the years, Charles enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. While traveling, he purchased countless antiques which he proudly collected and displayed at his home. He also loved working and tending his beautiful flower garden and vegetable garden. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his longtime friend, Rosaire Frenchy Morneault; his brothers, Dewey Slaght and Robert Slaght; his sister, Evalena Mae Slaght. Surviving are his brother, Thomas (Sandy) Slaght of Elmira; several nieces & nephews. Charles will also be sadly missed by his dear friend & caregiver, Tonia Puccio of Webster, NY. William R. Billy Valentine, Jr. - 66 - of 44 Reynolds Ave. Hornell passed away on November 29, 2020 at St James hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Robert J. Bob Hitchcock, Jr. 63 of Chaumont NY died unexpectedly Wednesday evening October 21st 2020, in the Town of Howard, he was there doing what he loved to do, bow hunting. Born in Oswego, NY on March 12th 1957, he was the son of Robert and Barbara (Dumas) Hitchcock, Sr. Bob grew up in Oswego and attended Oswego High School. Along with his father & brother, he operated Rural Machine Shop in Oswego for 25 years. He was also employed as a millwright for Local Union #1163... out of Syracuse. He retired in May 2018. An avid sports fan, Bob loved the New York Yankees and the Syracuse Orangemen. He also loved to spend his time fishing & hunting. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Robin (Rucynski) Hitchcock. Also surviving are his son, Tyler Hitchcock of Oswego; his daughter, Sarah (Kameron) Williams of Norfolk, VA; his brother, Thomas (Mary) Hitchcock of Oswego, 3 Sisters, Deborah Kenyon of Rochester, Connie (Ken) Gould of Oswego and Donna (Harold) Morley of Oswego; several nieces & nephews. He will be missed by his yellow lab, Ellie who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother in-law Paul Kenyon. Bob loved to joke around and was always teasing someone. He loved to tell old stories and even though we heard them a million times, we still let him tell them anyway. He will be missed by many. In following Bob’s wishes, there will be no services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mary Patricia Tremblay passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Rochester General Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020. Mary was born in Rochester on Sept. 21, 1948, and lived her life in Livingston and Steuben Counties, graduating from Wayland Central School in 1966. She traveled throughout the United States and Canada on long road trips with Mike, her husband of 53 years, and their two children, Michele and Patrick.... For the last 40 years she and Mike lived on a quiet rural road in the town of Wheeler, where Mary enjoyed reading, studying and selling vintage kitchenware, watching the deer and birds from her kitchen window, and staying in touch with her large family. She was a quiet Christian, and loved all people. Mary was predeceased by her father and mother, Bob and Becky Schreiner, and two brothers, Bud and Frank Schreiner. She is survived by husband Mike along with their daughter Michele (Joseph), son Patrick (Lia) and grandson Joe; sister Polly (Bill) Bulkley; and brothers Jerry (Jean), Leo and Fred (Colleen) Schreiner. Grief is shared by her husband’s family, where Mary was predeceased by father-in-law & mother-in-law Joseph Leo and Mary Tremblay, and brother-in-law Patrick Tremblay. She is also survived by sister-in-law Marie (John) Nettnin; and brothers-in-law Tony (Pat), Peter (Pam), Frank (Judy) and Henry (Jeanie) Tremblay. No service is planned. Betty Jean Bett Clark 80 of 1002 Wilhelm Rd., Harrisburg, PA, died Friday morning (October 16, 2020) at Community General Hospital in Harrisburg, following a long illness. Born in Erie, PA on May 15, 1940, she was the daughter of Gerald & Elizabeth (Ranwand) Kepner. Betty Jean grew up in the Canaseraga area and was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School (class of 1958). She resided in Rochester for several years where she was employed at General Electric Corporation. ... She later lived in Hornell for many years and worked for Birdseye Corporation in Avon, NY. In 1984, Bett moved to Mechanicville, NY where she raised her family and was also self-employed. She lived in Cohoes, NY from 1991-2014 and has resided in Harrisburg for the past six years. While living in Hornell, Betty love attending Hornell Little League games, watching her husband coach and her son & nephews play ball. Throughout the years, she also enjoyed watching the Little League World Series (played in Williamsport, PA) on Television. Bett had a deep love of animals, and especially loved her many dogs that she raised throughout the years. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and watching General Hospital & Little House on the Prairie on TV. Betty’s favorite movie was Titanic which she watched whenever it was on television. Her greatest joy, however, was simply spending time with her family who she loved with all of her heart!! She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Whiteman who died in 2012. Betty was married on December 19, 1970 to Terry L Clark, Sr. who survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Michelle Kepner of Harrisburg; her son, Terry (Jamie Thompson) Clark, Jr. of Harrisburg; 1 brother, Alan Dale (Arlene) Kepner of Wellsville; 1 granddaughter, Brandi Michele Lee (Brandon Hammond) Clark; 1 grandson, Nicholas Noyes; 1 great-grandson, Mason Lee Hammond; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews along with a large extended family who she also loved! Francis R. Joe Solo (92) formerly of 106 Elizabeth St., Hornell, died Friday afternoon (October 16, 2020) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, following a long illness. A native & life resident of Hornell, he was born March 15, 1928 and was the son of Carmen & Frances(Beaird) Solo. Joe was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1946). He was a veteran of the US Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict.... He was employed for about a year in the soils department of the New York State Department of Transportation. For 34 years he was employed as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1987. Joe was a former communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church and had been a member of the St. Ignatius Boy’s Choir during the 1930s-1940s. In recent years, Joe was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. He was a life member of both the Hornell Knights of Columbus and the Hornell American Legion. Joe was a New York Yankee fan and also enjoyed rooting for both the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. Throughout the years, he enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of Twin Hickory Golf Club. He was married on July 21, 1951 to the former Lucy Miller who died May 20, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Steve Lamb who died October 15, 2014; and his sister, Catherine Solo who died October 20, 2010; as well as many canine companions. Surviving are 1 daughter, Judy Lamb of Frederick, MD; 2 sons, Fran Solo of Endicott, NY and Christopher Solo of Endicott; 2 sisters, Elaine Grazioplene of Churchville and Patricia Emerson of Hornell; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Phil) Quattrini, Matthew Lamb, Erik Solo and Emily Solo; 4 great-grandchildren, Makenzi Quattrini, Logan Quattrini, Marco Solo & Nico Solo; several nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Gordon F. Gordy McGregor 69 formerly of Canisteo, died early Saturday morning (October 3, 2020) at Elderwood at Hornell Nursing Facility, where he resided for the past two years. Born in North Hornell, NY on May 24, 1951, he was the son of Robert & Alice (Shull) McGregor. Gordy grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1970). Following high school graduation, he joined the US Army National Guard and was active duty during the flood of 1972.... In the 1970s, Gordy was employed by Elmhurst Dairy as a milkman, delivering milk & dairy products to area homes. From 1979 1992 he worked for Monroe Tree as an Arborist, trimming, cutting & pruning trees. During the 1980s, Gordy re-joined the National Guard and served as a cook in Hornell. From 1993-2010 he served full-time with the National Guard at their Rochester facility and was active duty stateside during Operation Enduring Freedom from 2005-2006. He retired in 2010. Gordy enjoyed watching sporting events on Television and was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan. His greatest joy, however, was simply spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was married on April 28, 1973 to the former Cynthia Cindy Hadley who died March 8, 2014. Surviving are his son, Seth (Jenny Stephens) McGregor of Hornell; his daughter, Kristen (William) Lain of Canisteo; his sister, Irene Hendy of Webster, NY; 5 grandchildren, Shelby Derek, Morgan McGregor, Aaron Lain, Abigail Lain and Mallory Lain; 1 great-granddaughter, Harper Ockenden; several nieces & nephews. At Gordy’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Mary Ann Leon, 88, of 480 Maple City Drive, Hornell, NY died peacefully Friday, October 2, 2020, following a brief illness. Born in Hornell on February 27, 1932, she was the daughter of Juan and Annie (Grillo) Orihuel. Mary Ann grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1949. Following high school, she worked various jobs and completed her last six years of employment in office administration at Stern and Stern Industries a job she truly loved.... She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. On September 25, 1971, she married Earl W. Leon of Alfred, NY. She and Earl especially enjoyed traveling and hosting family & friends in homes they maintained in Florida and New York. Mary Ann particularly loved playing cards, cooking, and family gatherings. She was also an avid football and basketball sports fan. Her beloved husband Earl died May 18, 2006. Surviving are her children, Don (Cheryl) House of Millbrook, AL; Ron (Barb) House of Sun City Center, FL; Kathy (House) Wright of Prattville, AL; John (Sheryl) House of Alfred Station, NY; step-children David (Becky) Leon of Canandaigua, NY; and Diane Trimble of Geneseo, NY; 2 sisters, JoAnn McCarthy of Nashua, NH and Lucy Orihuel of Sarasota, FL; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins. Laura J. Witzmann 58 of 90 Seneca St., Hornell, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon (September 14, 2020) shortly after being transported to St. James Hospital. Born in Yonkers, NY on July 13, 1962, she was the daughter of Herbert & Helene (Bardeen) Witzmann. Laura’s family moved to Hart St. in Hornell when she was about five years old. She grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1983).... She had been employed at the Steuben County ARC for about 16 years doing embroidering & imaging and also served as an aid at the East Main St. ARC Home. An active member of New Life Ministries of North Hornell which is now Station Church, Laura enjoyed Sunday Services, Bible Study and other church activities. She also loved playing cards, especially Skip-Bo. Some of her favorite times were simply being a wonderful Grandma and enjoying her grandchildren’s activities, especially Little League Baseball games. She was her four grandchildren’s biggest fan!! Laura will be sadly missed by her loving family and also by her her many friends, especially her dearest friends, Beth Jones and Brenda VanOrnsdale. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Karen A. Daring 71 of 50 Ellsworth St., Hornell died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon (September 12, 2020) at her home. Born in Detroit, MI on October 14, 1948, she was the daughter of Jack & Lorraine (Bourgeois) Klann. Karen grew up in Oak Park, MI, and was a graduate of Oak Park High School (class of 1966). She later attended Beauty School in Michigan becoming a licensed beautician.... Throughout the years, Karen resided in several locations, including Michigan & California but lived in the Hornell area for most of her adult life. She had been employed for several years as a beautician at a local beauty salon and later served as a sales representative for Loeffler Beauty Supply, working throughout New York and Pennsylvania. Karen had a deep love of animals. For many years Karen owned & operated Doggie Depot of Hornell, grooming and taking care of countless dogs in the area. She was held in high regard for her amazing skills as a groomer. Being very artistic, Karen was a very creative woman, especially when it came to home decorating. She also designed beautiful Halloween costumes/sewing and was known for creating and decorating beautiful cakes, cooking and baking. Among her many unique talents, she loved playing her piano and sang like an angel entertaining anyone and everyone for hours. Karen was a very generous and giving soul and delighted in extending her many talents to family, friends and strangers. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Larry Waight and David Scrod Broderick. She was married on June 20, 1981 to Robert Bo Daring who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Tom (Chere) Holland of Battleground, WA, and Jeffrey Daring of Hornell; 3 sisters, Darlene (Klann) Waight of Hornell, Peggy (Klann) Broderick of Hornell, Janet (Klann) Kraft of Concord, NC. Karen cherished all her nieces and nephews: Tina, Renay, Dustin, Sarah, Kalyn, Brendan, Tyler, great nephews, nieces, and her forever friend Gail (Lusk) Faes. Clyde W. Lewis (74) formerly of 94 Maple St., Hornell, died Monday afternoon (September 7, 2020) at the Wellsville Manor following a long battle with dementia. Born in Hornell on September 18, 1945, he was the son of Claude & Margaret (Matthews) Lewis. Clyde grew up in Almond, NY and was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School (class of 1965). He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country during the Vietnam Era. While serving in the Air Force, Clyde ser...ved as Crew Chief of a fighter plane and had been stationed at various locations, including Turkey & England. He was employed for 25 years at the Village of Alfred Department of Public Works and for about 20 years served as a bus driver for the Alfred-Almond School District. Clyde attended the Alfred-Almond Bible Church and also enjoyed spending time at the Almond Senior Center, visiting with his many friends. He enjoyed fixing things and working with his hands. He also enjoyed arts & crafts, making works of art using beads, leather & wood. Decorating his home brought a special joy, especially during the holiday seasons. He also loved taking long car rides with his wife, Bonnie, simply visiting new & exciting places. He was preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Carole Lewis who died in 1976; his sister, Joyce Raner; his brother, John Lewis, Sr. He was married on June 8, 1974 to the former Bonnie Seeley who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Erica (Jeff Risley) Sergent of Fairport, NY and Gwyn (James) Ruthven of Alfred Station; 1 son, Bradley (Alexa) Lewis of Macedon, NY; his sister, Pam (John) Bretz of Horseheads, NY; 6 grand-children, Joseph Sergent, James Liam Ruthven, Grace Ruthven, Gabriel Lewis, Noah Lewis and Christian Lewis; several nieces & nephews.
