Happy Columbus Day! This is an important and historic holiday for Italian Americans, which make up America's 5th largest ethnic group. When Columbus Day was founded in 1937, the federal holiday provided a sense of dignity and self worth in light of the hostility and discrimination many Italian immigrants, Italians Americans, and Catholics (more broadly) faced. Today, we hope you will celebrate and remember the courage and self-sacrifice of Italian immigrantsour parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and beyondwhen they came to the United States to make a better life for their families. (The above statement provided by the National Italian American Foundation)

Anthony Naccarato, President NYS Grand Lodge Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America BE PROUD: WE ARE EXCEPTIONAL, INCLUSIVE, AND GENEROUS. POSITIVE IMAGE... WILL ENSURE OUR SURVIVAL. Yesterday, the Gift of Sight Committee, represented by NYS Grand Lodge First Lady and Committee Chairperson, Mary Naccarato, accompanied by Committee Co-Chair, Anthony D’Angelis, along with the Committee Treasurer, Michele Sewitch donated $25,000 to the Guide Dog Foundation. Ms. Jaime McGrade, Community Fundraising Manager, received the donation. The donation will be utilized to purchase a van to transport blind and visually impaired clients and dogs. The van will carry the OSDIA and the Gift of Sight logos, for its useful life. These funds were raised during the the last three successful fundraiser years. Proudly this significant donation is only part of the substantial contributions made by the committee to a variety of organizations to assist people and veterans with vision issues. I had the humbling honor to participate in the ceremony and frankly, despite the rain and unusual circumstances, it was certainly one of the highlights of my presidency. I congratulate my wife Mary, and the entire committee for their commitment and hard work in order to raise such a significant amount of funds. Lastly, Mary, the committee and I, thank all of you for always supporting the Gift of Sight and for your selfless and generous support. Your support is deeply and fraternally appreciated. The following short but powerful poem, written by an Italian who lived in Argentina, captures the true value of the goodness OSDIA and the GOS perform each and every year for those in need. I know what I have given you... I do not know what you have received. Antonio Porchia Our thanks to all who allow us to help others and please be safe and proud. Sincerely, Tony Naccarato

Today is the 76th anniversary of D Day. This was the Allied invasion of Normand, which laid the groundwork for the end of World War II and the fall of Nazi Germany. Our debt to you is everlasting! https://www.deseret.com//d-day-anniversary-normandy-ww2-re
