I am available to help you with your orthopedic problems, both in-person and via telemedicine. IN-PERSON I am seeing patients in my office for consultations and follow-up visits on Tuesdays and Fridays. ... To ensure safety and minimize inconvenience, appointments are scheduled at widely spaced intervals. You likely won’t even find another patient in our spacious waiting room. We follow all appropriate cleaning and screening protocols. Obviously, face masks covering your nose and mouth, and without an exhalation valve, are required at all times. Radiographs (x-rays) can be performed at NYU Langone Medical Center (around the corner from my office) or, if you prefer, at a radiology facility near your home. For those coming by car, several parking garages are available nearby. See the Location & Hours page on my website for details. If you have traveled from outside New York (except from adjacent states), you are required to quarantine for 14 days after arrival. See the NY State website (link on my website) for complete information. You cannot schedule an in-person appointment while you are under quarantine. TELEMEDICINE Most follow-up visits can be conducted by telemedicine, via a secure video connection. You can attend your telemedicine visit on your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop using Zoom, but you should plan on being home (in a fixed location) for the entire time. Unfortunately, new consultations cannot be conducted by telemedicine, unless there are extenuating circumstances (in which case you should contact my office). All major insurance plans (including Cigna/Actors’ Equity and SAG/AFTRA) will cover telemedicine visits. Workers Compensation insurance carriers in New York State and most other states will cover telemedicine visits for follow-up care. But the best thing: we will be able to see each other’s faces! Please contact us to schedule an appointment, or if you have any questions.

If you are unsure about whether to get a Covid-19 vaccine, please read this. I am not on the front lines of medicine any longer, but what I have learned from colleagues treating hospitalized Covid-19 patients is horrifying and frightening. The best thing you can do is get vaccinated as soon as you’re able with whichever vaccine is available to you first.... I agree 100%.

A blockbuster, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed article published in the Lancet, a premier medical journal. Read it and weep for America. One portion: Disdain for science and cuts to global health programmes and public health agencies have impeded the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, causing tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, and imperil advances against HIV and other diseases.

If we have this hierarchy that the king is worth more than the queen then this subtle inequality influences people in their daily life because it’s just another way of saying ‘hey, you’re less important.’ Even subtle inequalities like this do play a big role.

There is good immunity after Covid-19 infection. To better understand the body’s immune memory of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19), researchers from the La Jolla Institute for Immunology analyzed immune cells and antibodies from almost 200 people who had been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and recovered. They found durable immune responses in the majority of people studied.

Remembering Li Wenliang, MD, a brave and honest physician. His specialty: ophthalmology. He died from Covid-19 on 7 February 2020, at age 33.
