FITNESS TIP FRIDAY: I know it's been a while...and I hope you're all doing well, home safe, and perhaps exercising now and again! Because things have been so up in the air, I've been waiting to reach out with a tentative plan for teaching again. As of right now, it looks like NYSC will come back WITHOUT Group Exercise classes to begin...I've also heard that they will initially hold off in opening up the childcare/playroom. That said: I wanted to put it out to you that I may h...ave a new opportunity to teach less than a mile from the Somers NYSC. IF I do this...would any one of you be interested in an 11am class on a weekday? We would have to limit the class to 10 people at a time in order to encourage people to not be on top of each other, but I'd love to hear your feedback on this. I am fully aware of the fact that some people may never be interested in a group exercise format again, and that's okay too, I simply want to gauge the situation before I go ahead and make any concrete plans. Would I have 10 people interested in a Pilates and/or Pilates/Yoga style class? Would I have more? Would you all like to say the hell with it, meet up in a parking lot somewhere and drink cheap wine? LOL...that's fine too...but feel free to comment below so I can have an idea if I'll be seeing your shining faces anytime soon. Thanks in advance for not ragging on your fellow poster...keep in mind that everyone will have different opinions about this and that's okay. As for a timeline, I'm not sure yet, but let's say August or later. See more

FITNESS TIP FRIDAY: Little did I know that the last morning I saw most of you would be the last morning I’d see you for a while. It seems surreal now, but that Friday AM Pilates/Yoga Fusion class I began by sharing a quote from an old pastor: Never say you’re under a lot of stress. Say you’re going through a lot of stress, because that implies that you’re coming out the other side. That it’s not on top of you; that you are simply going through. I hope this post finds you goin...g through: perhaps muddling through, maybe eating too much, not working out enough, very possibly drinking a bit more wine than usual...but either way, moving through this season of life we’re all suddenly finding ourselves in. I want you to know that I miss you, my members/students/friends and coworkers...and I hope to see you again in the future. Until then, be well, stay safe, and get THROUGH. #wordsmatter See more

HELLO to all my Fitness Friends: I write this post with a heavy heart. As so many of you already know, the Governor of NY State declared that all gyms be closed by 8pm last night in an effort to stem the flow of the #coronavirus. Although I understand the rationale, I'm gutted, because I have never been in this situation before. On the night of Tuesday 9/11/01, I showed up at the Scarsdale NYSC to teach a class, not sure who (if anyone) would show up...and there was one perso...n there, waiting for me like usual, and I will never forget that moment when we realized that we needed each other. People need people. During the Hurricane Sandy nightmare, we opened ASAP and found each other at the gym: showering, charging cell phones, and blowing off a whole lot of steam. Needless to say, this is unprecedented. BUT, and I don't say this lightly: if you've taken my class for any length of time, you are ready for this! One of the phrases I often (over) use is YOUR BODY IS ITS OWN BEST RESISTANCE. You may have hated it, but I taught you how to do planks, modified tricep pushups, Pilates work, yoga poses, and a whole slew of things that require NO gym equipment. These movements are in your tool bag; now's the time to pull them out and use them. Also, I can't advocate enough for long walks outside. Thankfully, it's getting warmer out, and so we find ourselves with the opportunity to get outside and walk, and of course stretch right on the curb before you return to Netflix and popcorn. Use your tools. Take a walk. I hope to God to see all of you again soon. Be safe and Be well. And feel free to pray for us; we're sailing unchartered waters, and the prayers are always welcome.
