I’m thankful to be lending my voice, point of view, and artistic skills to a company that recognizes who I am and the contributions I make to my team, our clients and to the work. The slow and steady climb hasn’t always felt so rewarding. The realities of being a woman in a professional setting can be pretty disheartening. I’ve found that as a woman in a predominantly male field, I’ve had that growth trajectory blocked in one way or another despite the success I brought to th...e team, client and firm. These experiences forced me to stand up for myself and my value. Creative expression is one of the most powerful gifts that we possess. As a black content creator, writing is how I choose to share my voice. At times, I find humor in my chosen career path because I’ve had former colleagues say, Lee doesn’t know how to write. Well, I guess I’ll keep writing until I finally make it. I decided to stay true to myself and my passion for writing which has led me to create compelling content for some of the world's largest brands...so I guess I ...didn't do too bad if I must say so myself . People come and go in this world, but words live on. No matter the client or project, every day I have an opportunity to create content that is timeless. Whether working in the creative industry or not, I have discovered that all black people have the innate gift of creative expression. I decided I needed a change when I turned 30. The adventure of leaving a comfortable place in my country and venturing into the unknown, was an exciting idea but it was not an easy one and took a lot of courage. But my curiosity and the desire to experience new things ultimately led me to make the move from the South to North America. As a designer in Brazil I was excelling in my career. However, something that always intrigued me was that at most of the companies I previous...ly worked for I was always part of a small group of women on a team full of men. I wanted to explore other opportunities that would give me a fresh start to make a bigger impact as a female designer. I soon discovered that precisely what I sought, differed from my initial experience being an immigrant woman in America and still considered to be a minority. I faced quite a few challenges and multiple barriers due to prejudice, racism, and often times felt devalued. I was lucky to eventually find my place amongst a talented group of people at Dedica who also valued diversity. It made me realize how our unique differences make us better. There were times I felt like giving up but instead chose to continue to be brave and live life on my own terms.
