Here are some facts about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. People who are in close contact with one ano...ther (within about 6 feet) can come into contact with respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into their lungs. Older adults and people who have severe underlying chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness. If you have any of these high risk considerations, please consult with your health care provider about additional steps you may be able to take to protect yourself. You can take the following basic steps to help protect yourself and others from the virus: 1. Be sure to clean your hands often. 2. Avoid close contact with other people. 3. Stay home if you are sick. 4. Cover coughs and sneezes. 5. Wear a facemask if you are sick. 6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. The Deposit Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Retired Firefighter William R. Bob Fairbairn. Bob passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 in Fr...anklin N.Y. He was 87 years old. Bob had been a longtime resident of Deposit N.Y. and served with our department for many years. We thank Firefighter Fairbairn for his service to our community and send our condolences to his family during this difficult time. See more

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Broome County that is in effect from 1 pm this afternoon (11/15/18) to 8 am Friday morning (1...1/16/2018). Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze expected. Snow will develop during the mid to late afternoon today. Sleet and perhaps freezing rain may mix in with the snow tonight, but precipitation returns to all snow into early Friday morning. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening and morning commutes.
