This is excellent!
In May of 2014, the original Despatch Junction burned to the ground. A historic building, a part of the region's past is now gone. But we celebrate, three years later, the continuation of Despatch Junction, in a new building with the same old faces. Thank you to everyone for your support and business these past few years. You have allowed us to rebuild and continue bringing model trains to everyone, young, old, and everywhere inbetween. How's that for a rebound?
Building scenery? We have a full line of Woodland Scenics scenery materials to construct and decorate your layout.
Trains outside, trains inside. That's how we roll.
Looking for something for the kids? We have a huge selection of Bachmann Thomas & Friends starter sets, complete with everything you need to get trains running!
As CSX continues its signal modernization program, most of the remaining former New York Central signals are being removed from service and scrapped. Fortunatel...y, CSX has given us the opportunity to save the nearly 100 year-old Cantilever Signal Bridge at CP434 located along Broadway near Harlem Road. This signal was installed with about 300 other signals by the NYC between 1919 and 1929. The bridge itself was made most likely by International Steel Company out of Youngstown, Ohio and the signal heads were first General Railway Signal type T2 semaphores later replaced by GRS type SA Searchlight heads around 1939. On Sunday March 26th, this signal will be taken out of service and removed. CSX has offered to donate the signal bridge to the Society for display at the Heritage DiscoveRY Center Buffalo. CSX will dismantle the bridge in two sections and it will be trucked to the museum site to be unloaded. We are now looking for donations to help defray the trucking costs, restore the signal and put it up as a display at the museum. It will require that a substantial concrete base be made to support the signal and we are looking to raise approximately $3,500 for the concrete work and to reattach the two pieces of the signal. Most of the work can be done by our volunteers, but we need funding for the concrete and structural repairs. If you want to help out with the project, send your check payable to WNYRHS 100 Lee Street, Buffalo, NY 14210 of go to our web page at www.wnyrhs.com and click on the Donate button on the home page below the Parlor Car Project to make a secure donation through Paypal. Just include a special note that donation is for the signal project.
Before we ever sold model trains, the shop served a different purpose.
