For those of you who are waiting I have another batch of cutting boards waiting to be born! Should bew able to get at least a half dozen out of this batch of parts. Wood varieties this go around include cherry, black walnut, maple, purpleheart, padauk, canarywood and camaru. Did another two whisky bottles this morning. This time I followed the advice of @evans_explorations and made only a light score then utilized boiling water in lieu of a candle and the tops popped right off! Then it was simply a matter of wet sanding the cut ends until smooth #handmade #whiskybottle #glasswork #bottlecutting #bruchladdich

So I made a little stand for my wife's phone that she can use when she does yoga. It's not a particular fancy thing - BUT - and here's the important thing. I made the entire piece using nothing but HAND TOOLS!! There are many issues and it is by no means perfect, but I carried on, adapted some to overcome mistakes and stuck through the project. We needed a smaller vessel for holding the shorter kitchen tools as they kept getting lost in the large ceramic container. We had a very cool empty bottle of Port Charlotte scotch that I wanted to cut the top off and turn into a container for these tools. Reached out to a friend of mine who does glasswork for advise but she uses a very expensive jewelers saw which I was not buying. Gave it a little thought and decided a glass cutter and my new lathe was the answer. So I m...ounted the bottle in my four jaw chuck, slowed the speed down to 60rpm and proceeded to etch the bottle with a glass cutter. Once etched there were several rounds of heating the bottle at the etching over a candle and dunking the end into ice water. After about 3 rounds of this the top popped right off! Then it was simply a matter of wet sanding the top until smooth!
