...2011 and 2012, President Obama reduced the Social Security payroll tax on employees from 6.2% to 4.2%. That led to reductions of more than $100 billion a year in revenue to fund Social Security benefits. However, under the legislation that allowed for the payroll tax cut, the federal government's general fund made transfers to the Social Security trust funds to make up the difference -- effectively leaving Social Security whole. Obviously, a payroll tax cut all the way to ...0% would have a much more dramatic financial impact, especially if it applies both to employees and employers. The federal government could still make transfers to leave Social Security's trust funds unaffected, but the size of the transfers would have to be larger. With the federal budget already running a high deficit, there's a great deal of debate about whether such a transfer would be fiscally prudent. https://www.fool.com//would-trumps-0-payroll-tax-crush-soc See more

In an escalated trade war with China and now Mexico, the U.S. is losing trillions of dollars in foregone equity returns, Deutsche Bank said Friday. The trade war has been key in preventing a recovery in global growth and keeping US equities range bound, the bank said. The S&P 500 was down 5.33% in the month of May through Thursday’s close and down 5.6% from its 52-week high.... https://www.cnbc.com//trumps-trade-wars-have-cost-the-stoc

Market up? Market down? Market noise can get loud, but at the end of the day the market has grown. History has shown that the longer you stay invested in the market, the better off your investments are going to be. TIME Magazine front pages illustrate that patience is a great investment strategy. Whether it's 1987, 2008 or another challenging period in U.S. history, one lesson remains the same: smart investing is about the time in the market, not timing the market.
