Earlier in the summer, John di Domenico, along with urban designers Alan Chan and Brian Ravinsky of di Domenico + Partners, led a walking tour of Long Island City for the Forefront Fellows of the Urban Design Forum, supplementing their research goals with physical context. As a collaboration between the Urban Design Forum and the Mayor’s Office of Resiliency, this fellowship, entitled "Turning the Heat," seeks to mitigate the rapidly rising temperatures of vulnerable New York City neighborhoods using innovative policy and design solutions. Long Island City, the home of dD+P, is particularly susceptible to such a phenomenon and is a spot of interest for these fellows. dD+P is excited to see how the invaluable work being done by this fellowship progresses as it seeks to preserve the future of New York City.
On May 7th, AIA New York State held their annual Excelsior Awards Reception in Albany, NY where the MTA project "Re-Envisioning the Elevated: Four Stations on the Astoria Line" received an Excelsior Award of Merit for Public Architecture in the category of Public Art. The team of contributing firms that made this award-winning project possible ensured that each elevated station design promoted a sense of unity between transit and public art while simultaneously decluttering c...onduits and enhancing customer experience. Accepting the award were members of the di Domenico + Partners transit team alongside a representative from the project’s prime consultant, AECOM. From left to right, the accepting recipients were Project Designer, Brian Ravinsky; Project Designer, Alan Chan; Associate Principal, Ricky Liu; Principal, Andrew Berger; AECOM Project Engineer, Brian Aksman; and Associate Principal, Tilman Globig. #excelsiorawards #publicarchitecture #publicart MTA Arts & Design See more
The Project "Re-Envisioning the Elevated: Four Stations on the Astoria Line" has received an AIA New York State 2019 Excelsior Award of Merit for Public Architecture. This project set out to rehabilitate four historic elevated subway stations in Queens. Above ground stations, once the crossroads of neighborhood activity, were walled off from the communities below beginning in the 1980s. Modern methodologies and the integration of public art seek to rejuvenate the connection ...between community and transit. dD+P is proud to have received this award and hopes that the elevated exposure of these similarly elevated terminals revitalizes New York City’s pride in stations defined by open mezzanines and vivid panoramas of esteemed communities. #aianys #excelsiorawards #publicarchitecture #transitdesign Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) http://bit.ly/aianys_2019_excelsior_awards
