There is a connection between 3D modeling and card model design and here is an example: on the right is a 3D CAD rendering of Spanish galleon San Salvador, on the left is a picture of completed card model of San Salvador. The card model pictured was build just with paper, everything visible in the picture is card or paper, including rigging, masts and sails. The model was designed for San Diego Maritime Museum and is freely available from their website.
