3/3 URGENT DIRECT ACTION ALERT from Domestic Workers United and Equality for Flatbush : E4F Asking ALL Black Women & Women of Color EVERYWHERE to stop an abus...ive landlord from holding a live-in domestic worker captive Please Call Magdalene Maddie Viechweg, DAY & NIGHT at 347-874-4743 People who are NOT, Black Women or Women of Color , are ASKED TO NOT CALL but to SHARE this WIDELY on social media, text, and email Please Donate to Ms. Clarke through CASHapp: $Claudine to All top an abusive landlord from holding a live-in domestic worker captive Magdalene Maddie Viechweg, a Black woman landlord has woefully exploited the labor of Charmanie Clarke, a live-in domestic worker by only paying her $200 a month even though the hourly rate for domestic workers is $15 / hour . Although Magdalene Viechweg provided Ms. Clarke with a room, Magdalene Viechweg never gave Ms. Clarke keys to the house, forcing Ms. Clarke to rely on others to let her in and out. In 2020, Magdalene Viechweg stopped paying Ms. Clarke all together causing Ms. Clarke to go without food and other vital supplies. In the fall of 2020, in an effort to illegally evict Ms. Clarke, Ms. Viechweg, began being extremely emotionally abusive and physically violent towards Ms. Clarke. Ms. Clarke has been a tenant and live-in domestic worker at 745 East 51st Street since 2018. Since November 30th 2020, Magdalene Viechweg has consistently berated Ms. Clarke, threatened to change the locks if she left the house, intentionally broken her property, consistently entered into her room unannounced , denied her access to stove and revoked her cooking privileges, physically barricaded the bathtub so Ms. Clarke could not use it, turned off the WIFI in the house, installed surveillance cameras pointed in the direction of Ms. Clarke’s room and the bathroom, poured spiritual liquids on the floor of Ms. Clarke’s bedroom, denied Ms. Clarke friends from entering the house to provide Ms. Clarke with food and supplies, and sent fraudulent eviction letters . Ms. Clarke has also not received ANY mail not even from her family or friends, in over 6 months . DWU & E4F are asking Black Women & Women of Color to call 347-874-4743 and DEMAND that Ms. Viechweg immediately: Cease and desist all forms of tenant harassment, abusive behavior, and abuse of power against Ms. Clarke. Pay ALL back wages owed to Ms. Clarke Immediately give Ms. Clarke’s keys to her apartment, restore WiFi service, and cease to physically block her bathroom and stove access Immediately cease to violate Ms. Clarke’s right to have guests come to her home to visit, and desist from threatening or harassing her guests in any way Immediately take down any and all surveillance cameras that violate Ms. Clarke’s privacy. Immediately return to Ms. Clarke any and all mail she may have in her possession, and no longer engage in any form of mail tampering. Stop all threats and coercion tactics to illegally evict and force Ms. Clarke from her home of three years. DWU and E4F are both working legal and other political support for Ms. Clarke Again Please Donate to Ms. Clarke through CASHapp: $Claudine For more info : Domestic Workers United : [email protected] Equality for Flatbush : 646 820-6039 / [email protected]
For all workers interested and able to join in a solidarity action (despite short notice): There is a protest today (Sat), 11AM, 123 Allen Street near Delancey on the Lower East Side.. The laundry company that fired immigrant women workers for forming a union is running its union-busting operation from the very area where mass women workers' strikes gave birth to International Women's Day. A group will be marching from Allen St to the location of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire of 1911.
DWU wishes all our members, allies, and friends a healthy and happy 2021. Please support our work as it continues into the New Year. Love to all. https://mailchi.mp/266fc7a11fa6/dwupandemicresponse-3597524
