I really miss this drug..... so happy it is making a comeback!

No one will ever know how we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders throughout the course of our days or nights all year round- holidays, weekends, anniversaries, birthdays and family get together’s and religious holidays. No one will ever know how often patients refer to us as effin doctors while they demand that we diagnose their problem, relieve their pain, interpret their labs, read their x-rays, console and empathize with them, while expecting that we will conti...nue to be kind, caring and compassionate, while they verbally abuse us, badmouth is, and disrupt the entire emergency department with their loud, derogatory diatribes. It hurts when we are treated this way. It does. I just try to remember to ask the question- what would it be like for me if that sort of behavior was the best that I could do. Only then do I find compassion for them because this is the very best they have to offer - far removed from your best or my best- but it is their best- and from this perspective I can realize this is not about me, the nurse, the ED, or our failing medical system- and in this way I can find compassion for me, knowing that I am doing my best- in this way I can set myself free from becoming their fall guy and refuse to take it personally- it’s not about me, it is about them, and as far as I am concerned, they can keep their garbage. I refuse to pick it up and carry it for them. I will continue to try to be the cause of a better day and not the effect of another’s bad situation or foul mouth.
