Summer at the Dunewood Yacht Club is coming to a close! This coming Friday, August 21st, will be the final official day of sailing. At 5pm this Friday we will livestream (from our facebook) a short ceremony as well as the awarding of the Perpetual Trophy. Sending a special thanks to the community and those who made sailing possible this summer. Head Instructor Sanjay Day will be in touch about potential sailing options during the week following the 21st.

Summer at the Dunewood Yacht Club is off to a great start! Although our program is limited due to Covid, our solo and racing class students are making tremendous progress. We would like to give a special shout out to our staff, parents, and the Dunewood community for making sailing possible this summer. We would also like to congratulate Adam Berman on winning the Liberty Loop over the July 4 weekend. In a competitive field of 18 racers and heavy wind, Adam prevailed to become one of the youngest winners in the history of the race. Ben Berman and Steve Rosenthal finished second and third, respectively, with Steve finishing first among the racers who went west. We look forward to continuing the rest of the summer. Thank you everyone for another great summer at the DYC! After a crowded final week we wrapped up the summer with a successful fun day and award session. Congratulations to Bella Falotico, 2019 winner of the Perpetual! Bella continued her win streak, taking first in the Commodores Cup on Saturday. This weekend we wrapped up the regatta schedule for the summer with a 31-boat Frolic. While Jake Singer took first, finishing the summer as the only person to win an island race, C...ary and Lane Duvall will be the commodores of next year's race. A special acknowledgment to head instructor Sanjay Day and instructors Nick Singer, Sarah Kaul, Walker Strauss, and Bella Falotico. We would like to thank everyone for the kind notes and generous tips we have received and we hope to see everyone back next summer! STATE OF THE CLUB - REGATTAS AND FUN DAY 2019 Exciting times at the Dunewood Yacht Club as the summer draws to a close Two weeks ago the DYC hosted the Dunewood Secondaries. The juniors regatta brought heavy winds and challenging conditions. 9 racing class students braved the wind and raced, with Adam Berman finishing in third, Bella Falotico in 2nd, and Walker Strauss winning the regatta for the 2nd time. A few days later many of the same racers sailed down to Point o’ Wood...s for the annual GSBYRA U-18 Juniors regatta. On a chaotic course and among strong competition Jonas Davis led all Dunewood racers, finishing in 4th place with 19 points. This past weekend the DYC hosted the Dunewood Open. Among a large field of racing class students, current instructors, and DYC alumni, Nick Singer took 1st place, with Sanjay Day finishing in 2nd and Maddy Fritz in 3rd. Just as a reminder, the Commodores Cup is this upcoming weekend on Saturday, August 24th. Outside of racing, the DYC will hold our annual Fun Day for sailing students on THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 23rd, at 12 NOON. The Fun Day festivities will be followed by the Fun Awards ceremony at 5:30 pm, where we will present the highly prestigious paper plate awards as well as the Perpetual Cup. Sailing will not end for the year on Friday, but with only three instructors left for next week, the class schedule will likely change, so stay tuned for more updates.
