Honesty and transparency, a learning that we have continued to practice through our interactions with humans and horses. The last couple of weeks have been really tough; we know it has been for everyone in all of our own ways. At the start of this, we were fueled with energy and excitement for all this "extra" time we were going to have and how our tomorrow list could become our today's list. Between 25 horses, 57 meat chicks, 6 turkey chicks, and 30+ egg hens, and 3 roosters...Continue reading

100 Days of Teague: Day 6-15 It's really been an adventure here at Dun Roamin Farm during this isolation between 100 Days of Teague, along with all the other horses, and the continuous amount of work. We can't wait to share our days with our favorite peeps again. Teague continues to teach us who is witty, gutty, has the best sense of humor, and the greatest amount of patience. He checks all those boxes daily, especially in the mornings when he is ready to go out and chooses ...to ignore his previous evening's homeschool session of being patient at the gate. Day 6 & 7: Mark jumped in to help, which is pretty fun to watch because if you know Mark than you know him and Teague are a pretty equal match - the leader, the fighter, the biggest horse in the herd. It didn't take long for these two to figure each other out. One is to carry treats at all times and the other will humor him by obeying the basic guidelines set for the session. Day 8: After two incredibly great sessions working the heart, the brain, and the emotions, we took today for some undemanding time. We want Teague to know that we aren't all work, that there is comfort in our company without expectations. Day 9 & 10: Friendly Game & Grooming - Teague is extremely shy (or irritated) with his ears and eyes being touched so we've added this to our list of things to grow better at. It's funny that we started this and Teague is now the cleanest and shiniest pony in the barn, but you'd never know by the pictures. Day 11: More Grooming! & Touch It - find things to put your nose on that aren’t humans! Day 12: Mud Baths, Fun, & Jumps Oh My! Marie took Teague for a walk to find all the puddles, ditches, and fun. He rolled and rolled and rolled and then they went to the round pen for fast fun and found some barrels to jump. Day 13 & 14: Leading & Gate Patience. "Wait, what? You can't run through every open door." No, no you can't. Day 15: Pasture Play Date: We took the giant ball to the pasture with cookies and a smile. Teague and all of his best friends came over to climb the dirt piles, play with the ball and have a great time! he's still the "biggest" horse in the herd.

100 Days of Teague: Day 2-5 We are having fun and we really think Teague is too! It sort of feels like he is having a blast because he thinks he is training us. We have learned that he really hates his ears being brushed. He thinks that he NEEDS a treat every time he is touched. And, of course, we already knew this but he enjoys reminding us, he IS the biggest horse in the herd. Day 2: A good old fashion grooming - Marie had her work cut out for her with the amount of mud T...eague plastered onto his body from head to tail. Day 3: Friendly Game & Touch It: On a rainy day we got creative by playing in the stall with the gate open. This doesn't mean run out the gate. Putting a cone in front of Teague and asking him not to go by it created lots of laughs. He picked up on the game quickly which was no surprise. Day 4: Hill Climbs & Leading: Teague really likes to lead his humans, he does not want to be in the back or by your side. He is the leader, so we changed the game and let him lead. We went up the hill and down the hill. Mallory required Teague to stop when asked, this was a surprise because she wouldn't let go of the rope no matter how hard he tried to get her to. Day 5: Friendly Game with the Ears & Massage: We will need to continue to go slow to show him that our touch doesn't always mean work. He wasn't fully relaxed and his wheels never quit turning, but he was quick to beg for more when we were ready to walk away. 95 days of learning to go! Check out our videos in the comments.

Around here, there's always that running list of "we will get to that tomorrow." Well, we are humble enough to tell you that Teague, our Chincoteague pony has been on that list for far too long. We had high hopes of creating hype around a new campaign idea, "100 Days of Teague." The Dun Roamin Farm family would commit to 100 days of work with our "we will get to him tomorrow" pony. Despite closing our barn doors to our dearest of friends and family, we've decided to weather t...his "quarantine" storm and make our tomorrow list, today's list. We are moving forward with 100 Days of Teague, and we can't wait to share our lessons learned along the way. Teague came to us almost seven years ago, extremely malnourished, with little life in his eyes. It took a long time before he came out of his shell, but when he did, it was not that sweet little pony we picked up. He became the "biggest" horse in the pasture, the guard dog, the terror, the definition of an "evil pony" we warn parents about. We learned he would not become the new lesson pony we were hoping for. As you can probably piece together by now, he became our "tomorrow list" pony. Let us also say, it's no coincidence we are launching this commitment on April Fools. Keep following us throughout the next 100 days to see what this amazing, "too smart for his own good,'" creature teaches us. Because, as we've learned throughout the years, it's usually the horses that are the teachers. #dunroaminfarmllc #barnfamily #100daysofteague #happyhorses #naturalhorsemanship #positivereinforcement #chincoteaguepony #horsestraininghumans
