In a 2016 interview with Nightmare Magazine, Victor Lavalle described himself as a literary writer who’s trying hard to become a horror writer. Sounds like the perfect author for a Halloween read. Craft Time with Laura this week is a special Halloween extra! I’m going to show you how to make little Ghost Finger Puppets! Happy Halloween!! Here’s what you will need: -Plain white computer paper. -Coloring tools.... -Scissors. -Glue. Let’s make some ghost buddies for you to play with: 1. Take your paper, fold it horizontally and then cut your paper in half. Take one side and place two fingers on to the left side (see photo) and trace them. 2. Now you’re going to draw a ghost outline with about an inch or so from your finger tracings. 3. Fold your paper in half again so that you can see the ghost on the outside. 4. Then cut out the ghost shape so that you have two paper ghosts! 5. Apply glue on the edge of one of the ghosts, like I did in the photo (but don’t glue the bottom side of the ghost because that’s where your finger goes). 6. Match up your two ghosts, let it dry, and test it out! 7. Lastly, let your imagination soar and give your ghost a face and a name! I made two ghosts from just that one piece of paper by repeating the process!

Happy Wednesday! There have been so many good new releases this month! Laura recommends these three new October 2020 releases! All of these titles can be placed on hold! The links to each are available below. Dear Justyce by Nic Stone In Nic Stone’s debut novel Dear Martin we met Justyce. In this companion novel we meet his friend, Incarcerated teen Quan Banks writes letters to Justyce, with whom he bonded years before over family issues, about his experiences in the American... juvenile justice system. I loved Dear Martin and always wondered about Quan’s story so I feel like Nic Stone is answering my bookish dreams with this new book. https://bepl.ent.sirsi.net//ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0/one Humans by Brandon Stanton Brandon Stanton expands his ground breaking photography project Humans of New York to Humans Worldwide! I am beyond excited for this new volume of photos because I find Brandon’s ability to capture the spirit of his subjects to be absolutely brilliant and inspiring. https://bepl.ent.sirsi.net//ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0/one Tristan Strong Destroys the World by Kwame Mbalia In this sequel to Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, Seventh-grader Tristan must return to Alke and enlist the help of African gods and black folktale heroes when Nana is abducted from the Strong family farm in Alabama. I couldn’t put the first Tristan book down, I loved learning about the African American Mythological world that Mbalia created and I can’t wait to go back! Fans of Rick Riordan will love these books! https://bepl.ent.sirsi.net//ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0/one
