As I drive around Rochester I stop and take pics of bits of old Rochester left behind. I used to drive past them, but now I stop and grab a pic, you never know how long it’s going to be there. If you know of others please let me know.

The Christmas House: In Elmira, NY is a charming, multi-colored (16 colors) 1894 Queen Anne Victorian Mansion unlike any other you’ll seea Painted Lady. A ...walk inside will instantly put a smile on your covered face. At a time when merchants are putting out Christmas ornaments earlier than ever and at the urging of many of you, I absolutely had to go see The Christmas House on Maple Avenue there, a stunning shop with 98,704 Christmas items ready to be sold (yes, I asked the owner to check inventory). A sucker for anything Christmas Villages- related, they have a fabulous collection of homes, shops, buildings, train stations and on and on. They have 15 trees, all loaded with a variety of decorations. Julie and Mark Delgrosso own this treasure, having purchased the store in 1993 from Elaine and Tony DeBiasewho began the shop back in 1983. They have expanded the store, loading up every room on the main floor with Christmas decor and beyond. Aside from the endless decorations, they have popular ladies accessories, jewelry and even gourmet foods. The Christmas House opens from July through December and soon will have hot chocolate and goodies on the porch outside, keeping the business Covid compliant as we approach the holiday season. This reminded me a lot of Hand of Man in Owego, NY which closed after 45 years last December. As for the mansion itself, it was designed by the prominent architectural firm of Pierce & Bickfordthey designed many wonderful buildings in the region. The house was initially built for Elmira lumber baron Justus Harris back in the day. The Christmas House is a MUST-SEE in my beloved Southern Tier. It was nice to return to Elmira, the city that gave me my TV start as a sportscaster back in 1987always enjoyed it there.
