We invite you to join our Episcopal seeker’s class to learn more about and discuss the history, theology, and liturgy of the Episcopal Tradition. The class is open to people of all levels of familiarity with the Episcopal Church. We will meet bi-weekly on Sundays at 3:30, beginning on October 25th!
We invite you to join our evening prayer service, which will take place this Sunday, October 11th at 5 PM!
This week’s get to know ECC post is about Bailey. Bailey is a senior English major from Massachusetts. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, especially ballet and modern. She joined ECC in the spring of 2019 when she first transferred to Cornell. Some of her favorite ECC memories are getting to participate in Bible studies and going to Taylor’s house for an Advent service where everyone made Christmas ornaments.
Please join us for our Evening Prayer at 5:00 tomorrow. There will be a blessing of the animals for St. Francis Day!
Next on our get to know ECC series is Jenna! Jenna has been a member of ECC for 3 years. She was a law student at Cornell before graduating in 2019. She is now a proud alum! She loves nature, yoga, her Yorkie, and singing. Her favorite memories of ECC are Anna’s postludes and sitting in Annabel Taylor reflecting while they play. We've been so happy to have Jenna worship with us during Zoom services over the past few months.
This week’s evening prayer service is coming up on Sunday! Please see the attached bulletin for more information.
Continuing our series of getting to know ECC posts, we have a great introduction from Bill! Bill is a graduate student in Cornell's philosophy department, specializing in legal philosophy. Outside of work and ECC, he enjoys running, reading literature, and spending time with family and friends. Bill first came to ECC when he started his graduate program in Fall 2018. He says that he came to ECC haphazardly, finding out about it online and deciding to give it a try. He coun...ts himself very lucky to have wandered into ECC for many reasons--the most important of which is that it's where he met his good friend, and now fiancée, Kate Blackwood (also pictured in this post). Bill enjoys attending ECC for its services (including great preaching from our chaplain Taylor, and wonderful music from our organist Anna) and for our after-service community dinners (in non-pandemic circumstances). Bill is a wonderful member of our community! See more
Our next service is coming up this Sunday at 5pm. We hope that you’ll join us for worship and discussion.
To help our followers get to know our ECC community, some of our members will be telling you about their involvement in the church. First up is Tamara! Tamara is a junior in Cornell’s Hotel School with an intended minor in real estate and a concentration in HR. She is interested in human resources, training and development, and maybe even consulting! In her free time, she enjoys baking, spending time with her family, and jump roping. Tamara has been a member of ECC since he...r first year at Cornell. She was first introduced to ECC through an email from Rev. Taylor, which she says she is very thankful for! Some of Tamara’s favorite ECC memories include her bi-weekly meetings with Taylor. She’s learned about the Episcopal faith through exploring passages and psalms and discussing how to incorporate her religious values into everyday life. She renews her choice to be part of the ECC community each week because she has grown so much through listening to the lessons, participating in services, and meeting ECC friends of all ages. She considers the ECC community a wonderful base of support here in Ithaca and she is thankful for the opportunity to converse with members of the community through ECC. Here's a picture of Tamara and Taylor and at Taughannock Falls after attending a service at St. Johns! We’re so happy that you’re part of ECC, Tamara!
Our next service will be tomorrow, September 13th at 5:00. We hope to see you there!
We hope that all those who are beginning classes today have a safe and fulfilling semester. We welcome you with a prayer for the school year, from the Book of Common Prayer: "Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by thy Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of thy truth, they may worship thee and serve thee from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spir...it, one God, forever and ever. Amen" - Book of Common Prayer, p. 209 Please also enjoy our ECC welcome video: https://youtu.be/4jFPGUdyXfc
We hope that you’ll join us for our first evening prayer service of the fall semester this Sunday at 5PM. All are welcome!
